Not having used either beyond having a quick play at the shop (do use the 85 1.8G though) -
guess it comes down do personal preference (both considering focal length as well as build).
The G lenses are a different world (a lot of plastic), I love mine though.
Also love being able to manual focus without having to move a switch, don't use this a lot of times, but when I do I really appreciate not having to switch between modes but being able to focus on shooting.
On the other hand I didn't think I'd miss having an aperture ring, now I realize I do as I basically can't use the G lens on my old Nikon SLRs...
I guess what I'm saying is they're both superb optically, I bet it would be tough to tell the difference in real world shooting, so it's more about usability & personal preference.
