  • Do Fallout 1 and 2 for shit and giggle, be warned the "quest" isn't as clear cut as FO3 (like arrow pointing to the direction of quest item).

  • So back from a bit of a holiday and going to pull the trigger on this. Any other thoughts?

And in terms of what's not included (skipping monitor and keyboard/mouse):

    3 x SATA data cables
    3 x SATA power cables
    1 x network card

You mentioned 2.5" to 4.5" mount for the SSD - why? As far as I can tell the case has a 2.5" mount? (3 of them, in fact).

Will the power supply to mobo cable be included? I remember a cable that would go from CD drives to soundcards. Not sure if this is still a thing. Probably other stuff...

  • I'm on a train at the mo so I'll have a look when I get back. Probably best to get another pair of eyes on it anyway.

  • Cheers, bud - really appreciate it. Posted to the PC Tech Thread as well.

  • Cool. I can't remember if I put an aftermarket cpu cooler in that list, if not I would get an Arctic Freezer or similar.

  • Right. I think just add this

A few standard novatech Sata cables and you should be good. You're right about the case having the space for ssd's already and the psu should have all the cables you need.

  • Ordered.

    gulp

  • Any games I should buy on Steam right now (sale) in prep for new computer? Thinking Watch Dogs is worth a punt at a tenner.

You guys have been talking about Witcher 3. Maybe I'll grab the first one now and see what it's like.

  • Very little that I'd be going for at the moment, Invisible Inc. is awesome if you're a fan of those type of games. And Broforce is pretty awesome fun too, though any humour will be lost if you're not a fan of 80's/90's action movies.

  • Ah fair enough. I'm about ... actually have no idea how far through I am ... progressing slowly, and with 60 hours play time I seem to still be opening up more quest lines than I'm closing. Quite like the idea of the tale of two wastelands mod, to tie 3 and NV together

  • By all accounts there's a huge difference between 1&2 and 3. Not sure 1 does justice to 3 other than establish a world/lore etc.

In other news I installed Starcraft 2 the other day as said up thread and have basically zerged my way through the entire weekend. Lady CYOA isn't impressed.

1&2 is closer to New Vegas than FO3, especially the references.

  • I think they are talking about the witcher games, ed.

  • I can feel my happy gland filling up with excitement fluid #pleasestandby

  • Fuck Fallout. New Deus Ex. Didn't know that. Even more excited to have a new computer coming.

It'll be interesting to see what they do with it this time. Human Revolution was good, and the mechanics were fun, but it had a couple of problems.

  • I'm about to download Starcraft II. Anyone ever played?

    YOU REQUIRE MORE VESPENE GAS.

  • #F4 looks brilliant, the moment when you step out into the light 200 years after the bombs looks as momentous as the moment you first leave the vault in F3. The character generation engine's exciting and it looks like it might be forcing only 4 dialogue options on you which keeps conversation snappy, and hopefully they've randomised the importance of each answer (whereas before your answers were generally ordered by importance which made dialogue a bit less random).

  • I gave Fallout 1 a go. Christ it's dull once the intro movie is over. Point, click, wait for thing to attack, run out of points. meh.
I went with Deus Ex instead. And keep getting killed really early on the 1st level. bugger.

  • Been thinking about having another crack at Skyrim. Have tried it once before but didn't get too far, just had too much else to do. Should I pick up where I left off or is it worth starting again to refresh what's going on in the story?

  • The terrorists/hostages warehouse level? That early in the game you need to be patient and treat it as as a sneaky-sneak game. It's possible to be a bit more gung-ho, but it's easier once you've got a few augs that help. Plus sneaky pistol head shots is mega fun.

  • Yeah, there's a room with about 3 baddies in and I'm crouched by the door, shoot 2 but someone in there is clearly a fucking excellent shot and kills me quite quickly.

  • Back track and try to find another entrance/way around?
