If someone was a massive fan of the original film and it actually set them off on their career path, should they skip this film then?

Possibly not. Or, don't watch it with the intention of hoping its anything similar. A mildly hilariously bad action romp is a good description.

Slightly curious, what's the career path? Mad dinosaur scientist?

Cloning dinosaurs > molecular genetics > cancer genetics > cancer stem cells > *!@** labwork > office job

Think I'll just go see Mad Max again instead.
