SOLD: Plum Vainqueur Track frame+forks, 52cm

Posted on
  • I have this Plum Vainqueur track frame for sale. This nicely crafted frame was made in Gent, Belgium, somewhere around 1980 (estimate). Fairly tight clearances and a short wheelbase.

The frame is in a very good condition considering its age, certainly hasn't been used on the street. It has Pro Winner decals but it is a Plum Vainqueur frame for sure. Decals can be removed (I tried a bit, above clearcoat in any case) but they don't come off easy. I had started to replicate the original decals but the frame is too small for me really so this is something for a next owner to sort out.

The paint has minor scuffs but there is something (rust?) underneath the paint in some places (no surface rust). I'm sure this is the first lacquer so it's not rust painted over. There are small patches on the headtube/fork crown and top tube, see images in album.

    Plum Vainqueur:
    Seat tube: 52 cm (c-c)
    Top tube: 53 cm (c-c)
    Headtube: 12 cm
    Seatpost diameter: 27.0mm
Tubing: Columbus PS, Pista Special (definitely not Gara, those decals are from a later date)
    BB: Italian
Fork: Has not been drilled for brakes (Helical reinforcements in the steerer tube)

Note: Headset and BB are not included in this sale.

Asking: --- pounds (includes EU shipping)

  • I have revised my price. It's been lowered by 20 pounds and now includes shipping.

  • I've just bought a new frame, wish I had cash for this
    GLWS

  • This looks identical to mine and I have a hunch the tubes are Columbus Pista Special

  • I had seen yours in CP indeed, very nice build. Same frame details and pantographed lugs as on mine. Thanks for the information on the tubing, how did you find out?

  • Price drop

    --- Pounds including EU shipping

  • Thanks. I just found a few old columbus catalogs online. If it's got the rifling in the steerer then it's the same as mine. Good price for a great frame. GLWS

  • Aha, thanks for that. I'll check tomorrow if the steerer is rifled.

  • I have checked and the steerer is indeed rifled (Helical reinforcement). This indicates the tubeset is higher end (definitely not Gara).

  • PM'd

  • I might have a Plum Vanquier cap the winning buyer can have someplace.

  • What tubing is that!?

  • Also, another way to tell if it is indeed Columbus PS is if it has thicker chainstays. They will bulge just after where they enter the BB shell, which it looks like they do from your photos. Columbus PS was basically SP but with stouter stays from my knowledge. Also the fact that it takes a 27.0 seatpost is another sign that this is what it was made of.

  • Good one thanks for the information. Nice to know these kinds of tubing properties.

The chainstays do indeed bulge out behind the BB shell.

  • very nice indeed GLWS

  • is this still for sale? if yes, where are you located?

  • Pm!

  • This has been undibbed.

    So it's available again!

  • Nice - PM'd!

  • Neat! Still available? And possible to see some detail pics of scuff/rust points?
    Thanks.

  • Yup, hasn't been sold yet.
