Managed to find the beauties on ebay, in amazing condition without rusted cones and still have the white tyre guides . They are stunning, definitely my favourite brake design. Not sure what to do about pads, the existing ones are really dried out. I'll either buy the rectangular koolstops for the current holders or use some modern cartridge ones. Not sure if the rectangular ones can be toed in, or even stop that well. Anyone tried these?

The original pads are really not that good, but I've never tried to find a substitute for these...

I've run into a problem - the shifters do not mount tightly on the downtube bosses. I think i have the wrong internals, there certainly a few pieces missing compared to other images I've seen on the web. Here's what I have :
Here's an image from online. I don't have parts f, g or h. Part E is engraved campagnolo on mine, I think I may even have parts from older super /nouvo record shifters.
Anyone got any experience of these?

Turns out I did have all the correct parts for the shifters - there are two different versions and mine seem less popular . Unfortunately I over tightened one of the bolts too much in the braze on and it snapped off in the frame ! After cursing myself and not wanting to mess it up any further I took it to Argos, who were good enough to buy a new easy out tool to remove it . So big thanks to them , it took 10 days to get it back though hence the hiatus .
managed to get it built up enough for a test run. The original brake pads were useless so have ordered some koolstops. I have to say I find the old style hoods reallly uncomfortable, especially without modern ergo bars, does any one else have this problem ?
Apart from that it rides beautifully, the rear mech handles the 9 speed cassette with no issues
here's a quick pic, will take some better ones when I get the brakes and bar tape on. Need some better pedals as well !

Great build!

Cheers anidel, they are Campagnolo Chorus Monoplaners, there's a close up further up the thread.

Saw the close up, but I don't know the Campy models :)
Thanks!

I didn't notice you completed the build! Looks proper good.
But what's up with the bars?Ps: yes, the hoods are really small and kinda "sharp", no good for my hands either :(

nice one!! congrats.

that looks great: loving the bottom bracket shell and the painted rear bridge.
what tyres did you go for? -
• #41
I'm actually using CST Super HP's which were recommended on the forum by someone - I know I'll probably get lynched on here for not using Veloflex or something tastier, but to be honest I have these on 3 bikes and have yet to get a puncture in over a year of commuting. Not the greatest rolling or lightest but look good and do the job!

Cheers. Regardless of quality, they certainly look good.
Someone needs to make some decent 23mm gumwall training tyres. -

looks proper nice.
Some crazy lug action going on at the BB. -
• #45
That's amazing!
Maybe rotate the bars a few degrees clockwise? -
• #46
Cheers ! Yep I know they're a bit high but I find it more comfortable on the hoods like that . Hence why I'm going to change to modern ergos, for a while at least !

Looking good!
Just recently came across one myself and am in the process of swapping a few bits to period correct C Record components. The rear dérailleur is a year or 2 too modern and the cranks likewise. Like you I've got the Chorus monoplaner brakes but have got a set of deltas sitting in the wings but the current rims are too narrow for them.
For an (by today's standards) old bike the ride is amazing!

Beautiful, that deep red looks so good ! Classic Italian. Delatas will look great too.
Do you know what year your frame is ? Looks very similar, though mine has chrome seat stay caps...

Actually restoring a Pinarello asolo in black, Nice finished! congrats...!
I'll take a look if I still have the chorus bb that I was using on my first montello build, it was for self extracting crank bolts. If I'll find it you can have it for really cheap
