  • low flange is nothing but aesthetics, and a vague suspicion that in a build they are meant to be more forgiving of road buzz etc?

I can certainly live with high flange. I built a rear wheel myself (not that it's great) with a generic sealed bearing hub (planet X) it's definitely better than what im running currently on the front (stock hub from fuji track) but I would like something smoother than that on both hubs... it's all a bit rough at the moment.

  • if it's rough, replace the cartridge bearing in the hubs and it'll be buttery smooth again, hell just reused your rear hub on a new rims.

a wide rims + 28mm tyres make a much bigger difference in comfort without feeling too squirmy.

  • Plasticky though it is, I'm getting the USB Busch & Mueller, and a brakelight rear! Just waiting for the parcel ...

  • Mack hubs has a 10 weeks production time if you can wait

  • There was a small flange Novatec. I found some on eBay.tw

  • There was a small flange Novatec

    A265 front and A266 rear.

  • Low flange Dura Ace! Low flange Campagnolo! What's with all this obsession with cheapola in this thread? Make it blingy!

  • Just because you like a bit of drink in your shady working reassembling hubs with fresh hearing and grease regularly doesn't mean everyone share your obsession of high maintenance.

  • I've deal with Spa before, they can be slow, I would give them a call.
The bikes are highly rated by CTC.
Or try SJS cycles, they do a mean touring build too.

  • Anyone know where I can find a nipple try like this? My old workshop in Australia had a nice plastic one made by Velocity but I can't find much in the UK.

  • Umm, quite.

  • I fail to source A265 front and A266 rear in Fix/Fix and 20F 28R - any suggestions? [bdop, ebay, ali no succes].

  • hey guys
I got in touch with a particular workshop in london, asking them if they were able to build a set of carbon or carbon/alloy rims onto a pair of road hubs i have.

They came back to me saying they were up to ordering a batch of carbon/alloy rims made to order by Gigantex http://www.gigantex.com.tw/product-view.php?id=92. they are in the process of gathering interest for this offer and i said i would post that offer in here.
They need to order 10 pair of rims of this kind, that they would then build onto novatec hubs (hub model and spokes tbc with them). their provisonnal price for those is 700/750 £, ( tbc after oder taking import duties into account ).

Bottom line, if you are interested gigantex+novatec 20h/24h road/racing wheels with alloy braking surface, at a cost of 700/750£, get in touch ...

  • Need a wheel building up, don't want to do it myself because spokes and rim are on the lightweight end of the spectrum. Mosquito, who are super convenient, have quoted me £96 to build with DT Revolutions, or £40 if I supply the spokes and nipples (Sapim Laser, <£30).

    Anyone else to consider?

  • Or just get RS81-C50 instead.

  • yep those are good, if i wanted something else, i guess i could get that

  • @broken_777 on here. Good builder, bound to be cheaper. But SE London, so not especially convenient for you. Ask him though.

  • I've been running the old version for 2 years, and received one of the new ones last week. Absolutely faultless. Recommended, @JWestland. Actually come from China though.

  • The C35s are under £400

  • i mean the gigantex ones are 45mm and 23mm wide. so we're closer to the c50 model which is around 600£ at best, while staying i think lighter, even with a higher spoke count.

Mind you i had good experiences with the shimano factory wheels i used... but yeah, keen to try local wheelbuilding / maintenance

  • Mack hubs has a 10 weeks production time if you can wait

  • Anybody any experience with alexrim crostini 3.1 in 28h?

Light (390) can get a pair for £50 but one review says rear wheel won't last in 28h.

I'm about 75 kg with backpack etc. Belfast roads are however shite.

  • No direct experience of those. They sound tastey.

If they're for city riding and utility you might be better served with non-weenie wheels.
