If you have a cage that has access across the bolt tabs, then you can just slip a Jubilee clip over either end and tighten it up like that. It works perfectly.

You could also use a saddle-mount, or steerer top-cap mount if you don't want to potentially damage your frame (cosmetically) with jubilee clips.

A strip of old inner tube under the clips prevents that too :)

Thanks for the tips.
I've actually got that Tacx thing - it's susceptible to being shaken loose.
Seen this as well: http://reviews.halfords.com/4028/680223/reviews.htm
I think I might do what @thross is suggesting with cable ties and an innertube.

Cable ties will almost certainly snap. Head down to your local hardware shop and just get some stainless jubilee clips, they're only a couple of quid. Grease the threads before you fit them, and they'll last ages. If they're to go on an old track iron, then size 1A will fit perfectly.

I have this I don't need/want anymore, it's been sitting in work for ages. Missing one of the bolts, they seem to have been made too short so it rattled free, clips onto saddle rails and then can take 2 bottles, think the bolt missing is an m5 but you will want to replace it with something longer and more threadlock than I used.

I got some nice stainless steel band on things that will work with some cages. Haven't tried em yet I'll try and find a link.
If it's a steel frame it would be pretty easy to drill it and fit bosses.

didn't snap for me, held up fine under punishing conditions

I use one of these
Does the job, but make sure you bend the cage in so it grips the bottle tightly, so you don't lose your prized favourite bottle on its first journey.

@campervangough Ha, I hadn't even seen your commet so we must have posted at the same time, I wasn't calling you out on it :)

Zefal Gizmo does a good job. Sturdier than it looks and doesn't mark the frame.

I think all this obsession with carrying your drinks is weird. Just go to a pub.

I bought those Elite strips and they broke in a couple of months. Only 500ml bottles, too, no 1 litre SIS madness.
Then I used the jubilee clip method - much tighter, cheaper and still hasn't broken.

Long thread here:

I have that decathlon one mounted on the down tube of one bike, it's stayed there for about 3 years. It didn't last on the seat tube though. Neither did another Halfords cable tie job as the cranks kept clipping the cage.

Used this on my Cliff Shrubb with some velox tape around the frame to stop it scratching the paint - http://www.pedalpedlar.co.uk/products/ta-clamp-on-vintage-bottle-cage-holder-1
You can find cheaper on ebay prob.
Also if your proper budget just get wrap some electrical tape around a normal cage tightly and it will last you a couple rides for sure

The rubber bands on the decathlon model will snap if you keep shifting it between different bikes. Best left alone once installed.
Looking for a way to attach a bottle cage(s) for a frame that doesn't have cage mounts.
Have found this, which looks a bit clumsy. Are there alternatives?
