I got fed up struggling with a diamond stone and got this:

I'm happy to sacrifice perfection for ease and convenience, so far it hasn't failed. Knives from blunt as hell to slicing through paper in 10-15 minutes. It struggled on my Leatherman blade as it's too narrow for the clamp to hold correctly but everything else has worked perfectly.
