I think they copied the sub because like everyone else they realised it is by far the best looking diver. The branding adds a bit of character imo. Not seen another Squale I like. Interestingly I have never been a fan of Steinhart. B-)

[Quote]Yes for me to wear and under the £500 budget. There are some other names such as squale which are at the 40mm range whilst the ocean 1 is 42mm which is the only thing holding me back ATM as I have smaller wrists. My skx031 fits great which is 40mm and a couple mm thinner too. Still might take a punt in the gmt pepsi steinhart.>
If in any doubt about the Steinhart size, don't buy. They wear much larger than they look or their dimensions imply, and the case architecture makes them more "apparent" on the wrist than other 42mm watches like the SKX.
The 1545 that Gnomon and Long Island watches sell is not the same as the one shown on the Squale.ch site, which is NOS from the late 70's/early 80's. The current one is made under licence by Gnomon, and, while 'entirely designed and hand finished in Switzerland', may have travelled quite a long way in between times. If you know what I mean. It is a very nice case, but the dial and hands are not the best. If you want a sub homage, the Davosa Ternos is probably a better bet, but may not re-sell as quickly should you want to get rid of it. I have both cases, so if you do want to try before you buy, give me a shout.

For <£500 Sub homages, have a look at Kemmner. They build the current Timefactors range for them (so the quality should be similar to Steinhart), and have their own lines as well. No web-store, they only sell on eBay.

Only doing PVD subs atm, but the selection varies all the time.

Some nice looking watches, and very affordable. Even more so as you can get 40% off with the code GEKEN at checkout.

You really shouldn't have mentioned that davosa! Now I want that! At this rate I'll probably just end up buying a rolly!

And this with a normal strap:
Just can't really afford it right now. If everything works out I'm going to buy a house very very very soon.

Sorry to dig this up, but did you go any further with Iconic Watches and the Nomos Metro? The email you got from them seems nice and credible, but they are also advertising the new Metro 38 with the same average delivery time of 7-21 days, and it hasn't even been released yet.
