You say you're uninspired by your Mtb, but it's a rigid 29er, acknowledged as the world's most boring ride. Yes get something else, but don't ditch mtb-img based on that bike.

I scrapped this (slack, 140mm forked HT) a couple of years ago and started enjoying MTB again after I switched to 29". I've been mountain biking since I was 15, I've ridden most types of bike and know what I like for the kind of riding I do at the moment. If I lived in Wales I wouldn't be riding rigid, but for anything in the South East of England I can have more fun with no gears and suspension.

There's probably some truth in that, it's so washed out and eroded at the moment. Victim of it's own success, I rode it before it was cool etc.

No more. I'd rather do long trudges in the Chilterns then suffer the convenience of the fucking pit again. Saying that, I do need to explore more of the place.

In fact, I rode a 200cc Enduro bike at Swinley before you were even born.

They were discontinued to make place for the more boring frames in the Singular lineup- such a shame really.

Currently looking at a Trek Superfly 7 for XC racing, a bit late in the year now, but more for after this years CX season and long days out in the woods.

Anybody have experience with one?

I'm 6ft 1" so could fit between a 19.5 and 21.5 frame, in general is it best to size down or up?

Personally, I'd rather go for the longer frame, especially if you're planning on racing it. At 6'1", you're unlikely to want a super-low front end, so the only thing to worry about is stand-over height. Not something that should worry you too much after riding a CX bike :-)

You have to look at the specific geo to make an informed decision or face an expensive mistake. The 2 most important measures are effective top tube and reach.

Not knowing knowing if you are a gibbon or leggy doesn't help but the effective top tube on the 21.5 is mahoosive and very unlikely to fit you with a normal 70mm - 80mm stem. I ride a 627mm ETT with an 80mm stem at 6' (and that's probably a bit longer than normal) so you are unlikely to want to go above the 19.5" which has an ETT of 639 and will probably allow you to run a normal stem and bars.

Reach looks long too at 443 for the the 19.5" so the 21.5 must be designed for giants
