Gators are fine for city riding, nice and tough to cope with smashed glass, nails, and all the other gubbins towns offer. Because of this toughness, however, they have a harsh rigid feel and are going to be uncomfortable on longer rides.
Buying the widest ones your frame can take will help soften up the ride, if you can fit 28c width that'll really help and give you the best of both worlds - comfy and lots of puncture protection
