Only the middle and left are relevant to your question. Clinchers are basically what most standard tyres are. Tubs are in laymans terms a tyre and inner tube combined and are glued to the rim, clinchers are hooked in place by the bead into the rim.
Can't speak for the Gators myself as not used them. Hardshells seem popular on here for people who skid a lot.
I've used all sorts of tyres over the years, mainly at the bargain basement end. Honestly can't feel much difference myself. Cheap ones and really posh thin ones tend not to hold up as well to glass/grit/skidding but other than that haven't really noticed the difference. Currently using maxxis refuse on my tarck bike and some silly wafer thin cheap michlins on my road bike. The latter are complete shit.
Just don't take nos 30yr old 19c tyres across hampstead heath or canal paths. Managed to kill a pair in 2 days doing that.... -

Gators are fine for city riding, nice and tough to cope with smashed glass, nails, and all the other gubbins towns offer. Because of this toughness, however, they have a harsh rigid feel and are going to be uncomfortable on longer rides.
Buying the widest ones your frame can take will help soften up the ride, if you can fit 28c width that'll really help and give you the best of both worlds - comfy and lots of puncture protection -

Thanks very much, this is all really helpful.
I've ordered the wheels so next the tyres (& inners) and I'll be back on the road.
Hi everyone,
I've been out of the game for a while and looking to upgrade my bike slightly.
I'm looking to buy a set of V Sprint Miche 30mm machined 2 cross wheels for my fixed bike along with a set of Gatorskin tyres.
Can anyone advise the best Gatorskins for me to get? I'll mostly be riding inner city, but hopefully get out on some longer rides every so often. I've heard mixed reviews between and hardshell and normal shell?
Also, the V Sprint Miche wheels say 'Clincher tyres only'. Is there a specific type of tyre I need to avoid to fit this criteria?
Any help much appreciated...
