  • Hi everyone.
I'm sure someone can help me over here. This is my old frame, I stopped to ride with it last year because of 2 chips in the paint. Not sure if I bought it like this around 5 years back or after I had a small accident these came out. Yesterday I wanted to check how deep cracks were using sand paper to get rid of the paint (I wanted to re paint it anyways).
You can see only one crack in the picture, its pretty small but still a crack.

Needless to say i'm very attached to it.

Wondering if I should re spray it and risk to ride with it?

Any idea, suggestion is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

    Fab

  • where are the cracks

  • It looks like the edge of a smoothed down weld to me.

  • Looks like if you sand down you can start to see the weld that was smoothed out...

  • It looks like the edge of a smoothed down weld to me.

  • yeah you can't see much. I will take better pictures outside tomorrow.

  • I'd say that's the edge of the weld. It's been smoothed down / out.

  • Get some dye penetrant to check if you are worried.

  • i had a crack like that on a bianchi, had it repaired but then the whole tube snapped a year later (see @Thelythgoe 's recent for sale thread) mind you that was steel and your frame looks like alu?

  • thats the edge of the weld. 110% certain

  • I've a Kuota, albeit carbon but it has what looks like cracks in the same places as yours. Turns out after speaking to Kuota they're likely stress cracks in the paint that have showed through excessive frame flex (I do give it a thrashing). They told me yes to keep an eye on them but not be alarmed. That was 2 years ago and I'm still riding it and there's not much more creep to the cracks.

I would guess yours is the same if that offers any comfort.

  • thanks a lot guys. will add more pictures tomorrow with some better lightning. the cracks are really small as well.

  • yeah mine is aluminium.

  • i will get that! thanks

  • pictures updated
