• It's actually being booked in to get the original, falling to pieces constantly engine replaced with a modern Ford engine in November which will be AMAZING. I just need to keep it going until then. Fingers crossed.

  • A better idea is the entire engine and transmission from an Audi A4 or a 90s Passat - they have an engine mounted north-south with a transaxle gearbox for front-wheel drive - exactly the same setup as the Citroen H van in fact. Then as well as a decent engine you have a decent gearbox too, and you can use the whole drivetrain to give it decent brakes too.

    As for the starting issue, the battery probably needs replacing with a new one. They don't last forever and if it's failing to hold a charge for very long it's knackered. Even charged up an old battery can be too knackered to energise the solenoid that engages the starter motor with the flywheel.
