You don't pull off many mad skidz do you?
-
• #11503
i don't understand question a little
-
• #11504
Yeah, it was grammatically wrong tbh.
Do you skid often with that ratio?
-
• #11505
i use skidz very rarely but it's not because ratio hard, it's because I try to safe my tire. i have no money to replace it and tubular is expensive thing. later i'll put 16 cog and clincher rims i hope)

I've just done the Peak District to Derby and back to Manchester. I used 48:17. I'm heavy at 17 stone and I managed ok.
Edit: I went the hilly way via Stockport.

Favourite gear ratio thread >>>>>>

Thanks c0gsucker for making this the official favourite gear ratio thread.
My current bike is 50x12. But that is track gearing. Also, Soyo Red 2 tyres are a little expensive for skids and what not.

If you're not on 56/13 you're not really trying these days
-
• #11510
Lol, maybe for a pro. But all bikes here run about 49/50 x 14/15, depending on the rider. And those are specific for left turns only.
-
• #11511
I'm not pro, run that, and my bike turns left AND right.

hhsmtb?!

Maybe. I'm sure some people would put it in anti. I think it's pretty ratty? Should post in HHSMTB?
-
• #11520
An easier gear would save your tyres as well, easier to slow down for one.

Came across this:
I really don't think this is the right place but HHSMTB probably even less so. Meh. -

I can think of a place where I'll fit right in.
I ran 51x16 for a couple of years as that was what my bike came with and I couldn't be bothered to change it. It really is fine for the most part, providing you live somewhere very flat (I did), your bike is nice and light (it was), you're not carrying much (I wasn't), it's not too windy (this wasn't always the case) and you don't need to ride for more than about 25 mins in one go (this was what made me buy an 18t cog).
