Yes, I've told mine I will be leaving on X date, there by inadvertently giving them notice.
I also told, not ask and "will be leaving" not "planning on leaving", so there's no room for negotiation, if you want it that way.Your normal employment contract typically states the minimum notice period, so giving over minimum is fine.
But I would tend to hold off, if any shit was to happen with the future role. Always have a plan B if there is risk.
