  • So, still hunting for the S-works version, but this will satisfy the blood-lust for now, about to start building today, going to use really random parts for the moment then swap them for better ones later, will probably end up with Fulcrum 5's and an oldish ultegra or 105 groupset in the end, anything more will be overkill i think, unleast until i find its S-works counterpart.

@Dick I managed to find a headset today, still gonna have to try and get the old cups out though they seem cemented in!

Anybody know what the SLX stands for?

  • If it has that stupid "mindset headset" you can give concept store a bell. They popped those bloody cups out in a matter of seconds.

  • Hunting for the s-works?
I hear @Dick is selling his already.
    Seriously.

    Edit:
Just spotted you've already seen it...

  • Still hunting, if @Dick 's was a bit bigger, trust me i'd be there!

  • Anybody know what the SLX stands for?

A1 used in Allez, Allez sport, SLX was used in the Pro and Comp models; E5 was only used in the S works

  • also think e5 was used in some of the later non s-works allezs, as my alu with carbon seatstays allez used e5..

  • @rive_gauche i think this one is e5, it says it on it anyway, built it up with mostly stuff i already had, gonna get a black seatpost for it, then in the future some fulcrum 5's and a black compact crank

  • New saddle - thanks @homingmissle , random but cool cinelli seat post, some bar tape added and some new tyres, managed to get three basically new durano plus olympic editions for £30! Much more puncture resistant, since this is meant to be a bit of a winter build, plus look way better than the red ones!, i think.

  • coming together. why 'nodder' rotation on the bars? if you shortened the stem, lost the spacers and rotated the bars up a bit and slid the brifters forward to the 'knee', it would be a better position for riding overall and look a hell of a lot better

  • @rive_gauche I might have to try that! So do you mean rotate the bars and lift the brifters so there kind of flat on the surface?

  • Firstly, are the brifters comfortable to ride on at the postion they're in?

Is the saddle comfortable at the position it's in?

Measure from the saddle nose to the hoods of the brifters to give a datum.

Measure from the floor vertically and the headtube horizontally to the hoods of the brifters to give a datum.

All adjustments can then be referred back to these three measurements.

    a) Imagine the ends of the bars pointing towards the rear brakes. if you rotated the bars to line up with this you'd find that the brifters would be sat on top of the bars, not good.

    b) The brifters would have to be slid forward so that they sat on the 'knee' of the bars. Doing this means they look better, but may be too far forward, not good.

    c) Doing some subtraction may should give you the length of a shorter stem required.

    d) The brifters would probably be higher now than when you started, so you could look at removing stem spacers to lower them to their reference datum.

Result should be a more aesthetically pleasing cockpit, that is still comfortable to ride.

    could look like this:
