  • My guess is he beat his club mates.

Sorry to hear the run didn't go to plan, but well done for pushing on through! #wouldrep

  • The fastest of my club mates! Kate beat me at marlow last year by 12 minutes, and I was 2 minutes faster today.

  • I did my first open water swim yesterday with the missus at Rutland water yesterday. Roughly 2km in about 40 minutes. It was rad - think I have got the bug.

  • My race report from the weekend if anyone is interested...

  • Run sounds grim - well done for hanging in there. You look pretty chuffed with that wrap at the end!

  • that might have been the two beers that preceded it!

    it was good though!

  • I did the London Triathlon in Hyde Park on Sunday.

Despite falling off my bike in the wet I finished in 2:48:11 - which I was happy with.

    Swim / T1 / Bike / T2 / Run
    37:39 / 6:12 / 1:06:54 / 2:31 /54:55

The bike course was shorter than advertised though...

  • @smiff that's a great effort especially considering the weather and falling off! Plenty of low hanging fruit/free speed to be had in t1 by the looks of things!

first sprint of the season today at Dorney Lake, my previous course PB is 1:02:44, aim by the end of the season is sub 1 hr, hoping tonight will be sub 1.01...

New position on the bike though, so could be a disaster!

  • Thanks - Good luck for this evening Ed!

My bike was about 500m from the exit of the water, so T1 was always going to be a bit slow.

I actually spent about 2 minutes stationary according to my Garmin 920xt.

I would like to make up some time on swim and run... And some on the bike.

Next event booked in is Half Iron distance in August. Got to step up the training for that!

  • fair enough 500m is long - the transition in Rimini was 380m and that took an age to get through!

The key to transitions is being organised, and practice, spending 10 minutes a week going through the routine of how you take off your wetsuit, mount your bike, get off your bike and get your running gear on is far better investment in time than spending 10 minutes extra running, swimming or cycling, and so many people don't bother as it feels frankly silly to do in public, or at home if anyone catches you!

  • First middle distance triathlon in 11 days time. Currently I don't have a wetsuit, can't use the aerobars on my bike and I tore holes in my feet this evening running with no socks.
This is going to go well, isn't it?

  • Oh shit... that's the cotswold 113 isn't it? I'd almost managed to forget all about it.

  • @hats if your planning on buying the orca TRN is very capable in my experience, it's not fancy but the. It's pretty much the cheapest you can buy!

Last nights race was an interesting one. I got the fastest bike split of the night by about 40 seconds, I took a minute off my PB for the swim and dominated my wave winning by nearly 2 minutes, but there were two waves later, in which I dropped down to 4th overall which sucked a bit as I was beginning to get quite excited about my first bit of silverware in a triathlon!

  • Slvlss living up to the stereotype...

  • Great minds, wetsuit arrived today - I got the women's Orca TRN in fetching bumblebee black'n'yellow. Next step, learn how to put it on. I wore a borrowed wetsuit the other day and put my leg in an arm hole and toppled over. #ultimateslevless

  • Yeah, it's in TEN DAYS.
We're both in wave 4 and racking near each other, so if you see someone rolling around trying to put a wetsuit on it's probably me.

  • Awesome, I'll keep an eye out! Be sure to come over and say hello if you spot me :-) I'll probably be racing in a bright yellow hibiscus tri-top.

  • Eugh... just reading the race info for cotswold 113...

Bike racking at 0400, race start at 0600??!! It's not like it's going to take all day! That means I need to leave home at 0300 latest and probably need to be up at 0200ish... That's my normal bedtime! I was expecting a leisurely bike racking around 0700 and a start at 0900. #notamoriningperson

  • At least the roads will be nice and empty for smashing it round the bike course...

  • Suffered a bit of a crisis of confidence last week after the race - as I was 40 seconds slower than I was last year over 5k, but a good run on Sunday morning and I'm feeling confident that I can get a PB on the Windsor run course this weekend.

Hoping to break 2.10 on Sunday which admittedly is helped by a faster swim and run course this year, but would be pretty satisfying nonetheless, my club record is 2:12, which given we are based in Windsor must be a legitimate target!

Need to put my bars back up to where they were before, I just wasn't comfortable on my long ride on Saturday, I'll need to do more stretching to get my hamstrings long enough to be effective in that position - maybe later in the summer...

planning a 10 on Wednesday as well, hoping to break 23 minutes as an extra confidence booster..

If anyone is in the area and racing at Windsor I'm running a course jog through on Tuesday evening at 7pm supported by CEP compression - drop me a note if interested.

  • Local swimming pool changing room renovations going on until September so I can't go during my day off. Have to remember to get up at 6am on a Tuesday and go before work, plus have Sunday morning I can squeeze in an hour again.

Looks like my Fridays will now be spent in Richmond Park from 9.30am to 2pm. Should be time for 10 laps if I don't hang about, going to get very used to fueling myself on the move.

  • Good luck to @ewanmac and @hats in the Cotswolds this weekend!

I have Windsor, the last two weeks at work have been unreally busy, and so training has taken a back seat for the first time this year, but hopefully it leaves me nice and rested and I have lost too much fitness.

2:18:52 last year, target is sub 2:13 to take my club record, the course is generally faster this year by a couple of minutes, and I'm probably 2-3 minutes faster in each discipline so sub 2:10 is possible, but it'll have to be a good day!

  • Haha - 2 years ago my brother did this race and we set out from London at 1am, it was pretty awful. This time we're both staying in airbnbs, though not the same one cos that would be sensible.

Right now I'm in Wootton Bassett, I've had to bring both the TT bike and my road bike as I've still never ridden the TT bike and am scared that I can't. Obviously making a decision about this on race day is the right thing to do because I always think clearly at 3am.

On the plus side I may not even make it onto the bike as I'm trying to kid myself I've done open water swimming when actually I've swum in the lido, once, in a bodyboarding wetsuit - and I fell over trying to put it on as I put a leg into an arm hole.

    OH GOD.

  • Are you going to register tomorrow? I'm not sure what time I'm heading over but I was hoping I'd be able to have a quick dip in the lake to check my new goggles work etc.

If the lake is open then maybe you could have another try of your wetsuit?

  • Yep, going to swim tomorrow morning. Swimming is until 10 and registration opens at 2. It's currently raining so hard here that I might just pop outside in my wetsuit.
