Scary stuff! My dad has a Galaxy from arond the same era, it's a shame to see one go this way.

I guess the cost may be prohibitive, but have you considered getting the frame repaired, and are you London based? I recently met the Vaz brothers, Mario is a frame painter and his brother Winston is a talented frame builder, both worked for Chas Roberts but have set up their own business. I've seen Winston's frames being built and they're beautifully made, he does repairs too, so maybe contact him and get a quote, you never know you might be able to resurrect the old girl and do another 20K km on her at least, here's a link to Winston's website:

Muchas for the sympathies, sensom. Ask him if he wants to sell it! Kidding. They are great bikes. Thank you.

Do you really think that's reparable, GS? I did think it might be possible to take out the torn tubes and put new ones in but a) didn't know a frame builder available (thanks!), and b) it's possible there are other, new bends/damage to the frame. Like you said, might be cost prohibitive. But I will email them with the picture and see what they think. Prices on the website suggest £75 per tube, which isn't too bad. Thanks man!

Holy shit. I've never seen anything like that. One of those 'Heck I'm not even mad, that's amazing' moments! Commiserations all the same, it was a lovely colour.
So I stupidly just bought this really nice Basso http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/261908373169?_trksid=p2057872.m2750.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT and it's 95% going to be too big for me when it gets here (guess I'll know for sure in a few days). Anyways, if you're still looking and it does turn out to be too big I'll get in touch! Putting out a wanted request for chrome touring forks too so it should be complete by next week. Will just be looking to get back what I paid. Let me know what you think, and good luck finding a replacement! :-)
So this happened... (see attachment)
I believe it stemmed from a weak down tube following a crash shortly after purchase 5 years ago. Though it was straightened, the break occurred in the area which was never perfectly repaired. Having logged nearly 20,000km on this guy since I am sad to see him go. Looking for a replacement to switch the components onto.
The seat tube (mid crank to mid top) is 25" (63.5cm). This was possibly a little large for me (I am 6'0" tall with inside leg of 22.5" or 57cm). Looking at Wiggle, a 58cm frame is recommended for me. Saying that, I never struggled and felt completely comfortable riding it - so anywhere in between those sizes I think will be fine. I don't know if it matters but my wheels are 27 x 1/4 inch. It had cantilever brakes.
Goes without saying, no dents please.
