  • Snow I'd appreciate - it makes everything look mystical. Ice not so much.

  • Or lots and lots of snow melt running down the roads.

  • I'm trying to get the missus to 'race' TransAm with me next year. I know it's supposed to be solo self-supported but it could be a duo self-supported :)

  • Tandem, or nothing.

  • I'm not riding a tandem.

Actually, I'm not even sure one would fit in our flat.

  • You can do that in transcontinental. Pairs categories.

  • You can do that in transcontinental. Pairs categories.

Yeah, I think TCR has gone the more commercial race route, whereas Tour Divide, TransAm, and lots of other unsanctioned, ITT style races in the states are very much purist self-supported, self-policed.

  • Yeah. My understanding was also some people like to do it together and also they don't feel comfortable being alone in the wilds of Eastern Europe. So the pairs category's allows those people to still partake but not break the unsupported rule.

  • I'll wait for you to race it and then I can hire you as an advisor.. :P

  • Yeah man, you've have this thing a long time in the making. Not long now though.

  • That would turn a nice 4hr ride into a day long slog.

Not sure if you've been over this part of the world, but the mosquitos have pilot licences here. I left my bug net in Australia and opted for the lighter and more convenient head net while zipping up in my bivvy. I didn't get bitten, but they come at the head net like kamikazes and keep you awake all night. I'm extremely reluctant to use the citronella or lavender repellents I brought as apparently these can attract bears and I suspect my head net wouldn't pose much of a barrier to a 400kg Grizzly. I'm going to try Vitamin B1 tonight, failing that I'll buy a bug net and suck up the 100grams weight.

  • Well done Gabe amazing to here you are doing this. Good luck!

  • I've never been west of New Jersey, so it's good to know about the mozzies. I have a Lunar Solo tarp tent, has bug netting. I like the comfort so it's worth the extra weight I reckon.

  • Flicked you a message.

    Trackleaders is live!

Race starts 8am June 12th (local time Banff, AB)

  • Cheers Andy. Gonna need it! I can't really believe I'll be in Canada tomorrow night.

  • All the best gabes! It's a beautiful part of the world and such an impressive undertaking!

  • Yeah! Go destroy it! So very cool.

  • Mak or Murphy?

  • Shit, now I have to internet barrack for you and Adrian? Trackleaders will be getting a lot of use from me over the next month :)

Have a fucking ball dude. What's your instagram/twitter link again?

  • Oh sorry, Gabriel Mak

  • Adrian is in lead, don't think I will be! Jay Petervary will be going for a new record, and conditions are looking GOOD for it.

  • Best of luck, Gabes. I'm sure it'll be an amazing experience.
