That sounds very cool actually. My knowledge of cars is at least 14 years out of date, my first car was a 2001 Ibiza and my current car is 1989. Neither are performance or super.
I always thought an A5 TDI would be my ideal car, but now my sister has one and I think I like classic cars better.

Don't bother with Automerc.
MB club folks recommend Wayne Gates who I think is either Harrow or Wembley.Spare keys for that era can be done by any locksmith. They are running scared cos they think you're talking about those laser cut transponder keys for later cars.

The first incarnations of the DSG boxes were utter dogs, but the later ones are significantly better.
That said, the GTI still has significant lag which isn't so much annoying but I do drive it differently to the R32. That had plenty of power that you didn't really have to wait for, but it did have one of the original DSG boxes.

I'm set in the gti with the DSG. Found one that I think is the winner today. The only think hold on me back is that it is dark grey. I want a black one.

Late answer but my 2cents.
Definite pisstake with regards to lead time for a mass produced car. I'd get onto the dealer and say that you aren't prepared to wait. You'll have to check the T&C's on the order form to see what they say but really they should do the right thing and give you your money back. I would have thought they should be able to shift it on pretty easily if thats the waiting period.
I drove a 135i that a customer of mine had when they first came out. We remapped it for him and it was really impressive. Easily as fast as an E46 M3, much more subtle and I reckon you could hustle it around more than the 3-series. Feels as close as a spiritual successor to the early M3's as you'll get. They'll make a great track car when they get sub 8G's

anyone here ever owned an mk1 or mk2 scirocco ?
thoughts? -
• #23660
If I won the lottery a track day spec mk1 Scirocco would be on the list.
(I have never driven one, but got put in the back of my Grandad's mk1 / mk2 on the odd occasion.)
Then I saw this...
(BTW the latest joke Scirocco makes me sick all up my nose) :oP

Mk1 just looks like a poorly Golf.
-
• #23664
I'd rather have a Corrado.
-
• #23665
Still poorly?
Corrado got a bit more in common than latest namesake at least.
-
• #23666
I'd love a 'rado VR6...
-
• #23667
I always preferred the Mk2. I don't like the way the base of the rear side window jerks upwards suddenly compared to the front on either the Mk1 or the Corrado.
A Mk2 Golf GTi 8v 3 door would be my choice over either, though, if I suddenly wanted a 'normal' car.

poor, poor lancia
anyone want to save it ?
Modern double clutch performance auto boxes are not the same as lazy clunky auto boxes from back in the day. They are semi automatic, which means they can be driven in full auto mode for motorway cruising/clutch heavy city driving, or half auto wher you just use the paddle shifter to drop a gear for the odd over take, or full manual where you can either use the paddle shifters, or gear stick as a sequential shifter. Pretty much all modern day performance/super/hyper cars use a variation of this kind of system.
