I've an old school friend who refuses to accept that road tax isn't a thing, he just goes on and on about cyclists not having a right to be on the road.
He's written off three cars, had another two cars repossessed due to not paying the HPI, had a third party-insured superbike nicked off the street and been bailed out to the tune of many tens of thousands (maybe hundreds) by his wealthy mother for unpaid debts.
He's a financial advisor (who gets sacked a lot).
This is the sort of idiocy we're up against. The sort of idiot who against all evidence still believes they and their car is king of the road. And their drug and alcohol problems mean that they're one flick of the wrist away from being murderers.
