• @Pete4Eyes @TM Cool, well I'll stick with 10sp cos cheap is also good.

Looking forward to trying Shimano mind. When the Rival stuff is set up nicely, the shifting feels nice and crisp and quite light. BUT, getting it set up can be a pain sometimes - seems to take a lot of very fine cable tension adjustment to eliminate any rubbing, mostly on the front mech at either end of the cassette. In the appropriate chainring of course!

  • Sounds a little like Shimano and the front mech but there are tips for it.
Might work on sram as well. set the low limit screw in the small ring and the 7th/8th sprocket.
    Set cable tension.
Then shift to the 10th/11th (biggest).
then set the low limit screw again. It backs off and takes up the slack in the cable.
Then you only need to use the barrel adjuster (if you have one) for fine tuning.
Works pretty well to get the required tension in the cable.

  • Cheers for the tip! Will give that a go :)

What kind of rack? I've a Minoura Gamoh which came with QR plates. I drilled them out to fit a solid axle, but they they wouldn't fit over the lawyer lips on the fork. Suspect you'd have the same problem with other mounts :(
