I do this, occasionally. And by this, I mean dismounting and ambling through a junction on foot when it's safe to do so. I might have a little jog if prevents other peds or road users from being inconvenienced.
It makes a lot of sense at some junctions, where the signals are routinely ignored by pedestrians, cyclists and drivers - an example being the omnishambles that is the Pread Street / Paddington Station / London Street clusterfuck.
