I'd wanna see that built up. First thought is a clash going on between the traditional and more modern fonts, but then that might be considered a bold, rad and deliberate thing.

Tomo - thanks. You make a very good point, I might not get on with it! I'll build it up and give it a blast over the summer before deciding.
I noticed it on the blog a while back - I assume it's the same frame as it's pretty distinctive. I'd like to remove the Deda logos from the forks/stays at the least, there's quite a lot going on.
Anyway, will post some pics of the existing paintwork when the frame arrives.

I had the idea of a single, bright colour (orange or yellow enamel maybe) with a black 'block' logo on the down tube, keep it simple. The blue is nice too though.

Do you mean the trad fonts look odd on a modern frame? If so I can see that, would go for the modern block font if I opt for a respray.

Call Merican they will be able to tell you if they have ever used Columbus or if the serial number relates to their numbering process

sounds good.

Yeah, although it may look less incongruous with the Deda logos removed.

I've been inspired by this 'Leeuw' from Moss. Obviously the Mercian will have the (hopefully bare) carbon front and rear ends, think this type of yellow would be a good contrast.

Balls, missed out due to sniping on a Super Vigorelli on ebay
Anyone here get it? -
• #412
What was the story with this, no forks? Didn't seem such a bargain in the end.
-
• #413
£250 for a Super Vigorelli (even missing the forks) is a pretty good price. I was hoping to grab this so I can get rid of the condor and start moving to a Mercian only stable of bikes

Tease.....

Verdict? It's really, really nice. The fillet brazing is smooth as owt, the paint job is stunning - just a few pin prick dents on the top tube. It's so good, in fact, that I'm now in two minds as to whether to get a respray or not. What do you think, guys? Build it as is or go for my dream colour combo?

All that Dedacciai signage needs to go for sure.
I'm not a big fan of the paint but it is in top nick. As I mentioned before I'd build it first and then respray. Either way you've got yourself a lovely frame. Congratulations DJM. -

Thanks Tomo. I agree with you - the paint wouldn't be my choice but it seems a shame to blast it all off when it's in decent condition. I'm still sending the frame away to get the deda logos stripped - I don't trust myself with sand paper on that carbon! Will update when it comes back.

Keep the frame as is, looks unique.

Unique. New York. Unique. New York.

I wouldnt touch it, not even the deda logos. In fact sell it to me and get something else if you want to change it! ;)

Thanks for the input everyone. I admit it's a unique looking frame as is and I had a good long look at it today. The paint is really stunning. Unfortunately it's not quite me and I want to ride the bugger! Given that I decided to box it up and send it to Derby this afternoon for a respray. The carbon is going back to black and the steel will be the brightest yellow Mercian can manage. Don't judge me!

If you didn't like it, then you are doing the right thing. Although I am hoping to pop into the shop today to pick up a t-shirt, so I can intercept your frame? :)

Right after my coffee...which reminds me, what decade will they get their online shop up and running? Must be an opportunity there for some aspiring web shop designer.

Black and yellow will look great on that
I'd say spray, always liked this one:
