You need to borrow a TT bike before you can make reason of your calculation
But if you enjoy spending a lot of time on guessfaff and spending dorrah, forget what I wrote <3.

Oh arses and bollocksation. I can see this becoming a "to do" project for years.
Must get some clip on bars first.

I've decided to build my langster pro into a TT bike so I can have a bike permanently set up in a TT position. Out of interest, do you guys run a 1/8th chain or a 3/32 chain on your TT bikes? I currently run 1/8th, but need a new chainring and sprocket as currently run 48/17. I might use it for some hill climbs too which made me think about 3/32...

There's no particular reason to run one over the other.
-
• #406
3/32 is more aero :)
-
• #407
Are there fewer quality sprocket options in 3/32"?
-
• #408
There's Phil and Dura Ace, that covers everyone's need I'd have thought. Toyed with switching to 3/32 but it's a £200ish change.

I've not struggled to find any. Guess it depends how fussy you are.

I think Xav had a good reason for choosing one over the other in the TT thread a while ago, but I can't remember what it is, or which he preferred.
unhelpful answer is unhelpful...

Would power be an issue in terms of durability? (Thicker the better non?)
-
• #412
TdF sprinters manage fine on 3/32. Not overly concerned about durability on my race bike, it gets a new chain every 500-1000 miles anyway.
-
• #413
Speaking of which, 1/8" chain recommendations?
The lighter the better. Doesn't need to be some over-engineered thing for sprinters as I'm piss weak.
-
• #414
3/32 is lighter too innit.
There is no actual reason to go for 1/8 unless you are the chap on the right in this pic

Quads look aftermarket. B-)

Tester will say Wipperman 1R8 which is no lightweight. I've never had a problem with £7 SRAM PC-1s
-
• #417
KMC710SL. I had one on my Brompton before it became a fixeh. Reasonably light, but wore quite quickly.

Bit easier to find chainrings in 1/8th if you're using track cranks? Especially in bigger sizes
-
• #419
Sticking with 1/8th for that reason
-
• #420
Not once you want over 55t :(

https://instagram.com/m2.mquadro/ Cheap custom chainring size everything (1/8)

Wouldn't say they're particularly cheap.

Not so, you're basically down to Gebhardt or Fibrelyte once you go over 53T, and either of them will just as happily sell you a 3/32" ring with full height teeth.

KMC X101 is an option, still a proper (bushed) track chain but ¼lb lighter (112 links) than a 1R8, actually lighter and narrower than the 7R8 3/32" chain according to published numbers. I'll probably try one next time I change my chain. It is about 50% more expensive than the Wippermanns, but in weight weenie terms £10 for 100g is the bargain of the century :-)

They're so cheap they don't even have their own website
You have to think of how everything works as a whole. With a fixed saddle position, you could have a short TT with low pads and a longer TT with higher pads and still have the same back position.
