  • I once spent 24 hours in SeaTac airport. Trolley races across the really wide(empty at 3am) concourses were as interesting as I made it.

  • The only reason for layover in seatac is Alaska?

My dad lives in Seattle so been to that tiny airport loads. You should have left the airport, even tacoma's more interesting than the airport... Only just.

  • The only reason for layover in seatac is Alaska?

    YPW and fog.

  • Nice little parkrun this morning in Danson Park, bexley . Went the wrong way a few times. Not a fast course but decent location.

  • @Dammit - you need to start doing more business with the Japanese.

    Tokyo's Narita Airport Terminal 3

  • Started running again after stopping due to ITBS 16 months ago. I'm getting the same great feeling as when I started cycling again, feels so good to be able to run! Need to make sure I don't over do it though.

  • Well my strange injury vanished as quickly as it came on, I ran 4 times last week with a tough 13 mile trail run yesterday and it's all good :)

I've got the 'Race to the stones' ultra in 7 weeks so the next 5 weeks are all about time on feet. 10 mile fell race on Saturday followed by a slow, slow 22 miles training run on Sunday.

Not complaining though as it's just nice to be back after a month out.

  • Uneven gait- any hints and tips to even it out? I heel strike slightly with my left foot, only noticeable when I get tired. Or, rather, I strike with my heel as well as the forefoot when tired, with my left foot.

  • Some strengthening exercises?

Running round the. Norfolk coast today, so nice to have a change of scenery.

  • So you think it's a weakness issue? What particular muscle group?

  • You'll be better off seeking a qualified sports physio to tell you that. You could also spank some cash and do a session with a running technique coach.

  • All of my Inov-8 Road-X shoes are nearing end of life, and Inov-8 have kindly stopped making them, and there are no other pairs left anywhere on the internet, apparently.

So I now need replacement shoes - 250ish grammes, with minimal heal drop, and I like the lack of foam tread on the Inov-8s, as it meant less wearing down, and longer lived soles.

    Any suggestions?

  • @TW Finns latest book.
    Don't miss it

  • My guess was from the other side of the Internet. All I know is that I heel strike more when tired. Can you get to a physio or coach somewhere?

Running along the Norfolk coast this morning. Absolutely glorious, and flat.

  • Afternoon run in Barcelona proved an insurmountable issue for my Garmin- I don't blame it tbf as I was running down narrow streets with 4/5story buildings on either side. My watch switched to accelerometer pacing and distance, and Garmin Connect showed the 6.4 miles, HR, pace etc, whereas Strava just shows the couple of k I ran before the gps gave up- just an observation really, but a bit rubbish to not take total distance figs.

  • Plantar fasciitis, strained peroneus brevis, Achilles tendonitis and as of last week a stress-fractured metatarsal! All this has happened one after the other over the past 7 months. I'm either unlucky or I've got some serious imbalances!

  • Are you extremely fat?

  • type 2 diabetic.

Not at all mate, tall and lean. I think too much road training and lack of recovery time is taking it's toll. Possibly an uneven gait or muscle imbalance like you were talking about a few posts up.

I'm also trying to find some ways to fix it

  • I'm very very slowly unwinding my spine- from almost 40 years of being comma shaped. It's having some interesting secondary effects!

TW- my new favourite "do everything" shoe is an Asics DS Racer.

  • Anyone here use Brooks T7?

  • Ha, bit late to this, but you could drive to Powell river in less than ten hours!

  • I've decided on a new target for the year - knocking 2 minutes off my 10k, from 44 to 42 minutes, ideally at the Regent's Park 10k in September, with a back-up event towards the end of September.

I may even aim for a sub-20 5k if I'm feeling feisty not injured.

    First up - new shoes.

  • a bit slow, but I meant to suggest Merrell Bare Access as worth a look. They're zero-drop but have about 10mm cushioning - for me this makes them OK for road running.

Their weight is about 220g for my size 11. The sole is entirely vibram and has lasted ~350km without wearing much at all, versus my first pair (Bare Access 1s), which had foam soles and weighed just 180g but were worn through under my big toe after 450km.

Some reviews said the fit is a bit funny - they have a bit of arch support, certainly the insole isn't totally flat.

  • Ta - trigger pulled on two pairs in different colours.

  • My parents bought me one of these for my recent birthday, so I popped out to test it this morning:

Goal was to stay at/under 5km/min, preferably with a negative split, which I managed to achieve.

Including time spent waiting at traffic lights, tangled in dog leads and dodging prams I passed 21.1km in 1.44.20, which is faster than my (one and only) Half Marathon, which I ran last year with Hatbeard (the one down the Thames, very flat).

The notable difference is that to run a 1.45 and change at the Half Marathon I actually did myself some damage that it took some time to recover from (hips and gastrocs), whereas I feel pretty chipper now (sat on the sofa stuffing Chinese into the big hole below my nose).

HR for today was 156bpm/av, and I recently discovered that my max is a frankly unexpected 188 (running), with threshold being around the 175 mark.

So onto my question - would you run a half at threshold, or would you aim to keep slightly below that?

Threshold pace for me was, when I last checked, around 4km/m, however I don't think I could keep that up for a half.
