This is what I hear every time and then I think of a Jamaican cycling team that would just boss the sprints
Still not as good as Sean Kelly's "calc-u-lay-sharns" it used to annoy me, now it's part of the show

I kept screaming at the Spanish lady to finish off that flaming 60th seed. ARGH!! Early round tennis > Giro Italia. Only on Eurosport.

You'd think it would of been over quicker given she was injured as well!

Anyone know how fast Contador climbed the Motorola and how it compares?
-
• #3411
Think I saw a tweet from amitopiyoriyiyi or however you spell his/her name - was about 5.8W/kg, and several minutes slower than Pantani's record. Nothing suspicious.
-
• #3412
yesterday they looked slow compared to this
-
• #3414
Two minutes slower than Pantani.

Any idea how much time/wattage/effort is gained with modern equipment?
-
• #3416
a lot less doped up.

One of the guys from GCN did Mortirolo on 34/32 then a Pantani style 39/25 and said he was quicker on a compact.
-
• #3418
I think it was Fred Grappe who did some tests with younger riders on new and old equipment and the differences were quite large. Mainly lower weight and stiffer frames and wheels, if I remember correctly.
-
• #3419
Excuse my ignorance, but what was a typical bike weight for Pantani's era?
Now they're all coming in under 6.8kg and having weights put on to bring them up to around 6.9, from what I've seen on places like GCN.
-
• #3420
Interesting... Assumed Contador would be slower on Pantani's bike, but potentially much slower.
-
• #3421
The wheels are much lighter now, especially the rims, so rotating weight is reduced and that helps a lot.
-
• #3422
That and the microdosing.
-
• #3423
But isn't that only when accelerating? #notaphysicist
-
• #3424
I don't think you're carrying much momentum going up a steep fucking hill.
-
• #3425
This seems pointless, as the GCN guy had spent his entire cycling life mashing 39/25 up hills. So would have developed very different muscle fibers and such.
