Don't think of it as a whole 2k, break it down into 500m segments and find food/beer stops to get you through it.

I currently commute 0.8 miles. Fuck walking, far too slow.

I was knocked off in February - see #5918 in this thread. And whilst I was concerned about my cracked ribs the staff at The Whittington were more concerned about my super low heart beat at 35bpm dropping to 27bpm. I of course though I was Miguel Indurain - they disagreed, gave me an ECG, and installed this baby. So to the Jerk in the Merc - thanks mate - you knocked me off and saved my life.

So, now your HR is 600 bpm, how fast can you ride?

Depends how recently the batteries have been changed.

Aye, it'd be interesting to see if there is a sporting performance difference pre and post-op.
@Melsbikes How long before you can do some hard riding?
-
• #6636
If there was a performance boost it'd be banned by the uci by now right?

Had a driver beeping at me intermittently for a few miles of my commute, I was wondering why as there was not gap between me and the car in front. Eventually he came alongside me wound down his window and I was expecting a torrent of abuse, instead it was "well done mate, you are gonna get home before I do tonight, you're faster than my car".

Had some boy racers pull alongside to congratulate me on holding 25mph along a chunk of green lanes - wasn't even managing a Strava PB :(
Then they took the same side street I did and got in the way because cars can't do speed bumps :/
They did a skid though, so not all was lost. -

Brixton Road>Oval>Lambeth North>Bayliss Way>Southwark Bridge were all fucked this morning, as far as I could tell all due to roadworks.
On the plus side I did get to see @greenhell having an exchange of opinions with a polo driver at a set of lights

ha! my hand hurts :(

A puncture.
But then being complimented on the speed of changing an inner tube by the blokes in Edwardes sort of made everything much better. -

Fucked, you say. Would you describe it as a sort of clustery fuckedness? I know I would.

Occasionally came in central from east rather than north.. Hackney Road > Old Street > Clerkenwell.. And I thought my usual one was fucked up!

quick serious question, does anyone think that the amount of roadworks to (as far as I know) install cycling infrastructure into the busy commuter arteries of london's famous london, will discourage the take up of cycling because of the above mentioned clusterfuckery? and how it is making it heinously difficult to get into or out of town on the busy routes?
-
• #6649
If someone is "such" a passionate cyclist to give up just for that I am glad if they do (and hope so, less clusterfuckery for those on the streets).. We like to cry and complain on here, but I'd have to take the tube just once to shut my own mouth for some good time

It will certainly discourage a fairweather cycle commuter whilst it is going on (I would expect to have seen 5 times as many in this weather today) but once it is finished, I don't think it will have put anyone off cycling enough to not use the roads when they are clear.
2k commute, pffffff, short enough for you to have walked the bike...
