  • I bought a suzue promax rear wheel off ebay. I've just stripped it down and found that one of the cones is cracked. Does anyone know where I can source a suitable new cone?

Euro Asia Imports seems to have a complete axle assembly but they don't show a price.
I want to go back to the seller and ask for a partial reimbursement but want to be prepared with suitable figures.

where can I get nuts and bolt for the traditional brake firtment?
    and
My square taper shimano 600 crankset does not slide far enough on the BB and there is a big gap between frame and cranks?

    many thanks
    Theo

  • Concave washers here http://www.sjscycles.co.uk/dia-compe-dc56-1-2-moon-washer-front-each-prod31392/

M6 nyloc nuts almost anywhere, ebay LBS, screwfix etc etc.
    Something like this

If you need a through bolt buy some studding and cut to the size required, not a particularly elegant solution but probably easier than finding the correct bolt with the correct plain and threaded sections.

  • Hi folks, couple of people at work are thinking about getting beater bikes from this place -

Anybody know anything about them? Thanks in advance.

  • My square taper shimano 600 crankset does not slide far enough on the BB and there is a big gap between frame and cranks?

Which lubricant are you using on the tapers and bolt threads? When was the torque wrench you're using on the bolts calibrated? What chainline does your dial gauge show when using the drive side face of the BB shell as a reference?

  • thanks,
with the rear, could I just enlarge the rear brake hole on the frame and then put in a recessed nut?
    sorry for newbish questions

  • The answer is it depends on the configuration of the current through bolt with regard to thread length etc. The recessed nut may come to the end of the thread before the caliper is tight or the bolt may protrude through the recessed nut so that the hex key can no longer be used to tighten it.
Botttom line is measure everything before you drill the frame to ensure that things fit.

  • Ok many thanks for all the help,
my first road build is making my head hurt

  • Difficult to drill the rear, as the seat tube gets in the way.

Easier to mount a second front brake, backwards; ie on the front of the brake bridge, facing the "wrong" way.

More info here (scroll down to "Mounting recessed-mounting calipers on older frames".

  • Talking drilling:

Just mounted 25s on the HED and now I have to get more clearance for the mudguard. There is space under the fork. Do I drill or file?

  • What's the correct order for mounting this in my frame?

  • 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7

  • Between the fork and frame

  • Black split ring is crown race, goes on fork, bearings go into frame or cups in frame, yellow split ring goes into top bearing, then thin spacer then the cover over that. Starnut/top cap you may already have, if not twat starnut into fork steerer.

  • Don't twat starnut into steerer if steerer is crabon.

  • 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7

    hah!

  • Why are power meters expensive?

  • Sensitive parts and relatively low demand from people who ain't short few quid.

  • Calibration.

  • Why are power meters expensive?

They aren't. Like pretty much everything else, they have been busy getting cheaper in real terms every year since they first hit the consumer market. You can get a crank based one with cranks for under £500 or a hub for £500. In real terms, that's about a tenth of the cost of the first SRM.

  • I've just cracked the drive side lock nut on a Miche Primato track hub. I've done the usual run of LBS parts bins and contacted Varno to ask if he has any spares with no luck.

Does anybody have any suggestions on where I can find one for sale in the UK?

    EDIT: Like these ones. http://harriscyclery.net/page.cfm?PageID=49&action=details&sku=HU1025

  • if not in the uk, i have an address in germany selling them. i believe they have funky thread or something innit? not standard bsc?

  • You can paint me pink and call me Shirley if I know. I also don't know how to find out.

Germany is closer than the US so It'd be great if you could send the address over.

    Cheers

  • What's the absolute minimum rim width you would mount a 3.0" Knard on?
I have 23mm (internal) rims at the moment.
    Yay or nay?
