i do mostly 5-10 min rides 5/6 times a day so it is more efficient to be able to put my foot down easily and safely.
You can do that with practised, I'd advised you to get the saddle height right to avoid inflaming your knees.
I would also highly recommend Cycle Training to make the most of your commute effectively.
