  • Does anyone have any experience with the Planet X Tri suit?

  • I don't have any experience of Planet X kit, but both wiggles own dhb brand and zone 3 offer excellent value for money my zone 3 suit still looks as good as new.

  • Cheers Ed, I was going to go with the Zone 3 @ £60, but the PX is only £30. I'll probably only use it 4-5 times this year though...

  • cant comment on the planet x, but in fairness, as long as it holds together, then what's to lose!

  • Well in the end I went for this:

Feeling optimistic I went for Small...as it was the only size left.
In the sale for £36 - I can sell on for this price (rrp £120 apparently) if it doesn't fit.

  • love bank holidays, thats my two hardest sessions of the week done (not quite according to plan but meh) and no zombie sessions at work!

Also got my first proper lake swim in this year yesterday, which was slightly ruined by GPS making out i was swimming slower than the people i was overtaking!

Need to squeeze in another swim session this week now, but that might be doable Saturday morning before giving a 50 mile TT a go next Sunday!

My wheels are in the country and now en route to my office, which seems a bit odd, hopefully they will arrive tomorrow!

looks like it all went a bit forest gump

a friend of mine is in the running photo

  • GB Kit has arrived, with a free bottle of p20, not sure why but very nice all the same.

50 mile time trial/run off the bike yesterday went according to plan and the speed result for the TT was much better than expected, although I wont be in the proper skinsuit/velotoze/ATS leg trips but will hopefully have more aero wheels so hopefully drag numbers will be similar.

three more days of training and taper can begin, with a 10mile TT on Wednesday to see if I can really boost confidence with a 22:xx as the last full gas effort...

training peaks PMC looks like I should be nicely rested and plentifully fit enough.

aim is sub 4:45, but if I can replicate Sundays bike performance I should be on for more like 4:30...

  • just been reading that, to be honest I'd only want to go to Kona if I qualified, but it looks like IM actually win from this if you factor in that 100 extra starting slots means they can licence 2 more races worldwide which reportedly earns them about $1m per race, so its probably the poor saps who have been buying lottery tickets for years on the basis the more times you enter the lottery the higher your chances who lose out...

  • Well in the end I went for this:

Well PBK can do one - They don't hold stock and seem to order from the suppliers ad-hoc. Not sure if this is for everything they list on the site. Seems as though they're part of The Hut group, which I've also found to be a ballache to deal with. Order cancelled - Nice of them to take my money before dispatch though.

  • boooo...

back to planet x then or going zone3/DHB?

  • Ironman Corp is barest of jokes. Who thinks it's good for the sport to run lotteries and corporate auctions for places in a supposed world championship event (other than the tattoo brigade)? No sport should be run by venture capitalists more concerned with licensing official M-dot mattresses and aftershave than developing the sport. On the bright side, the UK has more iron distance races than any other country on the planet, so you can do the distance without all their corporate hoopla.

Went for a 2nd hand (eww) Orca off eBay. Fits great - First Tri (sprint) of the year on the 23rd!

  • It's Germanly satisfying to see the wheels come off a little from the IronMan™ gravy train

  • anyone else doing the Thorpe sprint this sunday?

  • Think it was this. Thought the dude might've snapped me but looks not.

  • Good luck at Rimini today @Sainsburys_Ed

First sprint Tri of the year for me yesterday. 1:22 and shaved 5mins off my PB, which I was chuffed with as I had done no swimming since last Sept. Came out of the water in the last 3rd after going on a slight detour on the course.
Really happy with the bike. Didn't get overtaken by anyone and I must have made up about 20 places. I Had also fastened my shoes a bit too tight as when I got to the run I couldn't feel my feet! Also didn't help that my new Garmin was set as Imperial, not Metric so I had no idea how fast (slow) I was running.

Wet suit is definitely on the cards now though. If only so I can do more open water swimming training.

  • Thanks @Pifko, weather conditions here are far from optimal, there's been a storm through the night and it's still drizzling, but I slept well, have had my breakfast and am just about ready to go.

We're only a 10 minute walk to transition so we'll leave it as late as possible rather than leaving bikes and shoes out in the rain for hours, hopefully the swim still goes ahead - the tougher the better in my book! Then it's 93km on a poorly surfaced road climbing about 1200m on the way out and then down the same road on the way back... Run is simple enough with three 7k laps along the beachfront, and then a 100m sprint to the finish line.

25 in my age group, hoping for top 10 but no real idea how good they are!

  • Good luck Ed, looking to see if there is live tracking but no joy yet.

  • Not the best day at the office, swim went well, out in the first 1/4 of my wave, the bike was tough but despite spending most of the downhill doing 50+kph I had enough gears to end up averaging 220 watts (so 20 watts under target) then I had a meltdown in t2, I left my chip in transition after putting socks on, so added about 500m and then once I was properly out my left quad and hamstring simultaneously cramped so hard it made me cry! Couldn't stretch and waking made it cramp harder - so I had to wait for it to subside despite the GB manager screaming at me that I was top 10, and then just had to ease into the run once it stopped.

So of my three aims top 10, sub 5 and being the fastest of my club mates I only achieved one.

But a lot of lessons learnt, and I may come back next year for another attempt.

  • Well done Ed. Many would have fucked it off if they cramped up at the start of a HM.

Which of the 3 targets did you hit?
