I'll likely rescan anything that's worth the effort, but I need a way to just see what I've got first - we're talking a over a dozen rolls of film. On my equipment, scanning all of that would take a month.
In such circumstances perhaps you are right to go for commercial scanning to preliminary assess what's worthy or interesting from the rolls; or, with a bit of time on your hands and access to a flatbed with a film holder (even from the cheap variety) you could use it for the same purpose.
