  • Lovely! My dad had one similar, but this was years ago and i was a little kid!

  • Ride Sunday?

  • Yeah I'd be up for a casual spin.

  • I'll be running or riding up silly hills in the peaks - next weekend though.

  • Hola guapos/as. Going for a ride tomorrow, casual as you like. Meeting at Dandy horse at 10 for some caffeine, and setting off about 10.30. Distance will be around 6he 60mi/100km mark and there will be some sort of cafe stop athe some point. route will be Coltishall, Walsham, Mundesley, Cromer, Sheringham, Weybourne, holt, Reepham, Pub. Or something like that. All welcome.

    LIST TIME.

    1. @jakjak
    2. @thross
    3. Sam who's not on here.

  • ^ So gutted that I'm working!

  • Haha - never have, never will!

I do need to up my mileage though, might have to start getting out before work but getting up a 5.30 fails to appeal!

  • Do you not get full days off now then?

  • Yeah, but I'd like to be able to get in 20 miles a couple of times before work during the week too

I want to be comfortable doing 60+ milers on Sundays now the weather is getting nicer - something to aim towards at least

  • Ah I see. I wish I had the dedication to get up before work, but it's just not going to happen. Midweek rides should be more of a fixture now it's light though. Would be nice to get a bunch out more regularly again - those Sunday Dandy rides were always great - we should get a group together with a similar ethos.

  • I can see no reason why they can't start / finish from the Dandy even though @jakjakjak isn't there anymore - it's still a good drinks / cake stop!

Some evening rides would be good, a few of the guys at work have got into cycling lately so might be able to get them involved too

  • Oh totally - I just think the 'official' mailchimp messages and the fact that the cafe could attract a larger/diverse crowd made it much easier to get a group together.

That'd be good. I've also seen the Evans groups rides advertised, and Jack mentioned something about a Fat Cat/Streelife collab too. Might just have to start tagging on to other people's.

  • Sounds like a plan, I can't imagine anyone (other than VCN or similar) getting funny about people tagging along for rides

  • Yeah, I think the main roadie clubs would probably balk at it, but the Evans one is advertised on a huge board outside the shop so they must want people to turn up!

  • The fact one is Sunday morning this week. 9.30 in collaboration with boRwells. Nothe sure my buddy Sam will fancy it though After tomorrow.

  • Hello, I was just in the Dandy Horse today asking about the Sunday rides as I hadn't been along to one for ages. Anyway I would definitely be up for doing something like that. 30-40 miles, maybe more.

  • Another 'through the night' ride if anyone else is keen?

Could be good prep for the the dynamo

  • We could always do our own pre dynamo night ride? Maybe the Norwich 50 route or out to teh coast and back just to test lights/gear etc.

  • Who's up for a ride this Sunday / Monday?

  • I could do Sunday, time/route depending.

  • Where do you fancy?

  • Not bothered - nowhere too far though, as I have a man-date planned with @Rikki at some point on Sunday too!

  • I was probably thinking of going out early doors

...does anyone know of somewhere or a riders group or something in Norwich?

We never seem to be able to get many people out riding

  • I can't think of any 'indie' groups (apart from @jakjakjak and my nascent CCC (Casual Cycling Club) of course) so maybe it's just worth joining one of the bigger ones - ABC, VNC, or Iceni - if you want regular groups?

I think the biggest draw for those larger groups is that you get consistent times for rides, and consistently good turnouts. The issue with 'us-on-here' is getting everyone together without some sort of formal framework. The mailing list for the Dandy rides worked perfectly, for example, but without something like that, and without someone willing to devise and then lead regular rides in a more official manner, it's always going to be too nebulous to be successful.

I've been tempted to start the CCC 'Dress Down Friday' evening rides - chilled, no pressure, after-work jobbies. Maybe I will.
