  • @pharoahsanders I just stick the 120mm in there but have it further back. Save up for the above as they look amazing.

Any way - quick cross post so any advice welcome

  • Appreciation to Mercian for having a small part from 10+ year old Campag 10 sp hubs in stock today.

  • Finished this over the weekend, first ride this morning. Only a phone pic for now. It was never meant to be a period build, more some things I had spare that needed a home. Only got to do the 10kms to work, but quite pleased with how it rides.

  • Oooh that's purty. Like.

  • This work of art has been in a box in my attic since it was returned from a Mercian repair/restoration in about 1999, i was rear-ended by a Saudi Arab with cataracts (No jokes please, one minute i'm doing 25 miles an hour the next i'm sat on the bonnet of a Capprese Classic whilst out training in Saudi Arabia, they replaced the rear triangle and re-tracked to 130mm (9 speed at the time). it's a 653 Pro Lugless, but at the Mercian were waiting for 653 tubing to come in and i did't want to wait, hence it has 531 renovation stickers on it. I has never been built up since it was returned to me. I keep threatening my wife that i'm going to hang it on the wall for all to see, i think it's beautiful. Just thought i would share.

  • @cyclopathe Definitely hang it on the wall. It would look great.

  • My Mercian Vincitore Tourer is edging closer and closer to actually being finished.
It'll still be a few months I think but it's getting there.
I'm not sourcing anything rare/vintage or period, I just don't have the cash flow.
I'll be sure to pictures up here first.

  • @pharoahsanders Have you seen these guys? They do DA-7600 hubs with rear spacing of 110mm at £90 plus p&p. http://www.njs-export.com/collections/hubs/products/shimano-dura-ace-hb-7600-110mm-f-r-njs-approved-hub-set-15050226

  • Real nice, especially those forks

  • @PQR yup i have seen those but as noted upthread i just jammed in a 120mm axle and am making that work

  • WANTED: Vintage Mercian 60cm, preferably complete road bike with original or NOS Campag or similar would be amazing. But will consider frame only, if its beautiful. If you know anyone who can help, please put them in touch. Thanks.

  • thanks Tango130, i have got in touch with Mercian direct and they've been really helpful. But perhaps a little surprisingly, they don't stock any second hand Mercians. I suspect they all disappear on forums like this, ; eBay or word of mouth. thanks for your interest

  • Try a wanted ad on Retrobike, if you haven't already.
I had a good response there when I was looking for my Mercian.

Also, keep an eye on hilarystone.com.
Top prices but he always has good frames.

    Good luck with the search.

  • Thanks Tomo, that's really appreciated. I will check these out

There's this on Retrobike but it's on eBay so you've probably seen it.

What flavour of ride are you after?

  • Thanks, yes i have seen this. it's nice, and I keep looking at it. Tho, i'm ot so keen on all the braze-obits for front light, cantilevers, guards, rack, etc. its v practical, probably what i SHOULD be looking at. But my heart is drawn to a pared down bike, perhaps with guards, but not much else, and lots of vintage campag. Also the Mercian on that link is perhaps a tad expensive for the kit is on it. And (being super-picky here) i'm ideally looking for a bike pre-1987.

  • New Mercian Audax frame. Basically designed to be a comfy road bike rather than for full audax. 28's, guards and an 12-29 rear to follow.

    10 spd carbon chorus.

    Yes saddle is now sorted!

  • The paint looks gorgeous. Do you have any closer pictures to show it off?
I've actually gone for carbon (partly) on my Mercian build. Love the old style mixed with new components.

  • this is the pic from mercian, its like a deep red flake.

  • Mercian purchased...I've been looking at pro lugless and velocita frames for a long time and when one came up in my size I had to go for it. It's now winging it's way to me from South Yorkshire - the only question when it arrives is: do I build it up as is or send it straight over to Mercian for a respray? I'm not sure what to make of the Colnago Master-esque scheme it's currently sporting. What do you guys think?

  • It's obviously personal preference but the paint looks pretty tidy.
Maybe build it up and run it a while before deciding.
It would be a terrible waste of cash if you build it up and decided you didn't like the ride.

Seems Mercian were so chuffed with this frame they put it on their blog.
