• hi everyone,

Looking for some parts for a '78 colnago super restoration project.
I bought it with dura ace brakes, levers and seat post. It has a campa gran sport crank, ttt stem, cinelli bar and nuovo record derailleurs+shifters. Paint is badly chipped. So basically i'm in for a complete re-spray and re-build.
As this bike looks best in full super record livery, i'm desperately looking for parts..
Most of these are already sourced but still looking for a seatpost, original hoods and decals, preferrably yellow. I've seen black and white but want to go azurro/yellow as colour scheme..

    Hopefully someone can help out..

  • Seat post sorted...

  • As for decals you'd better look for them on cyclomondo. This is proven site.

  • I'll second that Cyclomondo have exactly what you need for a '78. I'm doing one myself actually.

  • @Bici77 If yours is a '78 then perhaps you could tell me whether the decals are applied on top or underneath the clearcoat as yours is currently original. I want to paint mine and can't establish whether they should be applied before or after. Or if yours is not original I know a man who will definately know .................... @saarf

  • thanks for the props @JusCos!
@Bici77 - you can get nos lever hoods for around 25£ usually on the bay, old/used tend to split on mounting

  • Hi guys went offline for a while. Thanks for the comments. I don't believe mine has original decals, being above clearcoat. Also what the seller told me... The decals shown above might be from a later era as well. The earlier downtube decals are without the cloverleaf, correct me if im wrong..
It's currently sarronni red with black background decals. I wan't to go azzurri and yellow for the cutouts, cables and bar ribbon. Found something for spray and basically have everything for a full campy build except for the fact that the crank is from 85 and brakes + levers are second gen s.r. So i'm looking around for record brakes and levers or s.r. Gen 1. And a <8> crank

  • I'm pretty certain this is the correct decal set for a '78 (although this frame looks older as hasn't got Colnago embossed on the fork crowns underneath the clover)
Sounds like it's gonna be a lovely build. Where are you going to get it painted?

  • 'Props' Now I haven't heard that expression for a long time ...... but well deserved

  • Nice bike! Hopefully mine will turn out just as beautiful. @saarf, any comments on the decals?

  • I'm looking at unlimited colors here in the Netherlands for paint. Not sure about their reputation with older bikes but they do modern team bikes as well.

  • Yes but sadly not mine

  • weird post , not working on browser

@Bici77, unlimited colors are good, I used them twice, the decals @JusCos posted are period correct, these guys should be able to sort them for you with the refurb

  • @saarf am I correct to assume the decals would've originally been on top of the clearcoat

  • Thanks again to both! Feeling reassured about both paint and decals now..

  • some pics of the frame in current state.

  • ooh that nice. Fork crown chrome looks good too. If it were mine I reckon I'd take those decals off, polish it within an inch of it's life, touch up the worst of the chips and put the period decals on it. It's have a nice 'period' patina then.
What's that brazed on to the seat stay? Is it a chain hanger of some sort

  • I would say so

  • looks like a nice find, enjoy!

  • Shame I can't just do that to my vastly turquoise blue resprayed find. Wanna swap @Bici77

  • you can buy good quality clearcoat off the bay, you could strip it and do it yourself

  • 'Vastly'. I meant 'ghastly'.

  • well, strip paint and look at it as a project!

  • Thanks guys. I'm happy with it although it cost me quite a bit..
Paint is chipped too badly. It wouldn't just be patina..it looks like a poorly treated, badly damaged frame. it looks better on the photos than in real life; i almost didn't buy it when i first saw it. Now i know better :)
managed to sell most of the parts i don't need and replace these with good condition S.R. / N.R. Parts, cinelli bar and stem and Mavic GP4's with record hubs.
As i'm just starting out on the whole "classic bike refurb thing" i failed to recognise that i have gen 2 brakes and crank is dated 1985, So need to replace these in time but will settle for now to get it built up and ride it..
