Its pretty conventional for touring bike bars to be way up high, sometimes people have two sets of handlebars on the same bike. If you read the information it says the geo was based upon the blokes normal MTB he had used so far for touring, but wanted a more touring specific bike. The only thing I see as unconventional is the lack of hand positions, no butterfly or bar ends.
