No skids. I'd consider being very confident riding brakeless on real roads without having to skid essential. Plus being confident in a group ride/race.

Great thanks! am confident fixed and in bunches, wanted to see if needed as I cant!.. from videos I've watched it looks more like a paceline than a bunch, imagine it'll be somewhat different to road racing!
Have also found the link to register... https://www.eventbrite.com/e/red-hook-criterium-london-no-1-registration-15714506512

Kilburn High Road won't have seen anything like it.

Come on then, who's going to give it a go?
-
• #31
I've been thinking about it.. But the avarage pace of 48kph (that's what they held in Milan last year) scares me a bit without seeing the race course first.

Although it would be really cool to have a lfgss team as city's representatives

Interested if a) no upper age limit, and b) flat course (tried the Nocturne Fixed Crit a couple of years ago and it almost killed me). Could use the experience for training anyway...

What gearing do the pros generally run for these?
I'd favour some hills for this! -
• #35
48x15 is the suggested gearing I believe
-
• #36
Pretty sure most of the final race field will be on bigger than that.
-
• #37
Agreed and it's typically flat too, I wouldn't hope about hills..
-
• #38
I'll probably be on either 51x15 or 53x16. Perhaps bigger for qualifying than the race.

50x14 or gtfo
-
• #40
Sweet, 46x13 on 25c is about the same GI. Can get away with buying a cog only..
-
• #41
Thinking 50 15
-
• #42
Top 85 to get through? That's quite a lot. I'm tempted to go 94-96", depends on the course
-
• #43
Could be fun. From what I can tell you need to be pretty fucking fast though.
-
• #44
Should we create an event for this?
-
• #45
5th floor Reece @HH is the only comparison I have. He qualified 117th and finished 16th in the last chance at Brooklyn. Obviously turning left is one thing, and crit a different ball game.
I was planning to do this for ages and now something has come up I can't pass on which I'm equally excited but pissed it's fallen on the same weekend. -
• #47
Nah, do it! You're lighter, better acceleration out the corners!
-
• #48
I'm there spectating for sure. Looks like a great day.

Pretty sure my SRAM GXP chainset has 170m arms, maybe time to switch for 165mm Omniums?!
And how does quali work; solo laps or is it an open session and you can draft and do what you want but make sure you get 1 hot lap?
-
• #50
Brooklyn was split into sessions of 50ish riders. You have 20mins to get the fastest lap, team work / drafting allowed.
Complete red hook ludite here!
Is June 10 confirmed for entry? Is there a link anywhere?
Do I need to be able to do fixeh skidzz to safely survive an event like this?!
