  • The blutack seemed to help the extended battery a bit but my fucking god the 810 is even worse than the 800! Fucking unstable, freezing pile of shit!

  • Happy you hear you made it!

  • Only just. Actually not quite true, I was smashing it this morning but that was after a brief stint of thinking about asking the police for some time in the cells to warm up.

  • Anyone fix their 810 freezing issues? Firmware update for it work?

  • OSM maps or Garmin maps? Turn by turn on? Which model and firmware? If we get enough info we could pin down the freezing issue and help eliminate it. I'm going to get details from mine shortly..

  • OSM, turn by turn on, 810, latest firmware.

  • one of those lipstick sized external batteries pretty much gives me another 8 hours

Struggling to find one of these. Would you be able to find a link? Many thanks

  • 810, 3.40, OSM maps = shit, 5 files for 12hrs

  • There's a 3.62 but it's beta

  • Thanks. And again for your pointer on the micro SD reader, which worked a treat.

  • What do you peeps use to plan out Cycle routes on? I'm planning on riding down to my Daughters new abode nr Woking soon, I'll be riding from Dartford. I put the start and end locations into 'Ride with GPS' and the 'cycle' route takes me down the A3! Erks, I'd prefer not to get splattered thank you all the same. I've got a little Garmin Edge Touring that I use to plan routes on but sitting here during lunchtimes I wondered if there was another online routeplanner option available I can play with? Any tippermost toppermost recommendations? Ta.

  • Ridewithgps, if you choose enough intermediate points you can go on a route that you want rather than your garmin.

  • ^^^ Aaaahhh...penny drop moment....so I can, thank you, I didn't know that was possible. I was doing A-B routes thinking 'this is pants', its not, its my understanding of it thats kakkers.

Using my superb detour skills in conjunction with ridewidjeeps I have avoided almost certain splatterage on the A3 and added a very scenic 12 miles onto my journey using route 4 straight outta Roehampton.

    This is fun.

  • Installed firmware 3.60 on the 810 and it locked up after just 51min. Didn't even make the fucking commute. What a pile of shit.

Has anyone done this reset thing to an 810 and did it help?

You may encounter an issue where the Edge 510, 800, 810, or 1000 may freeze or not power down and appear as if it is locked up. Performing the below button sequence while the device is connected to the computer will unlock (or unfreeze) the device.

    Connect device to computer
Press and hold LAP/RESET and POWER
Release POWER when screen turns off (continue to hold LAP/RESET)
Release LAP/RESET when device appears as a drive letter on your computer

Your Edge should now function normally. A software update may also be available to download from Garmin Express.

  • Had a slightly different issue the other day - out of memory error calculating the route from London City to Heathrow!

I wonder if the Talky Toaster maps I have installed are too much for its poor little brain?

I've also done the process above and will see what difference it makes.

  • My Edge Touring doesn't even get to report out-of-memory when I asked it to calculate a route between Dartford (Kent) and Naphill (Surrey), I left it 'calculating' last night, came down for brekkie today and it was still whirring away! Apparently it helps if you add locations on the way through to your end point I read, I've bought it to work to play with during lunch and see if that speeds up the process.

I'm new to all this, you can tell can't you?

  • My New replacement 1000 is as big a piece of shit as the last.

Basically garmin release and sell products that they must know are not full working.

  • Bingo

  • Yeah I'm going to write and complain properly when I get home.
They're breaking trading law really as their products aren't fit for purpose sold.

  • I'm going to try and sort my 810 out but it's likely to go back.

  • My 810 was good to me.

It crashed once I think. When I paused a ride with a route loaded and turned it off.

I really don't know what other option there is.

A guy I was speaking to last night had an etrex. But he says even that plays games with him. I might keep the 1000 as it plays games but their consistent. And just make a formal complaint.

Please someone step into the market place and make a good product. You'd do very well.

  • So far the 810 is worse than my 800. I might try and find some unlocked Garmin maps (I'm not buying another set of their maps if I'm only returning their shit device) rather than the talky toaster ones, which seem far more detailed but might be causing the 810 issues.
