Women specific cycle clothing

Oooh! The women's commuter stuff has been available in the US for ages but I think it must have only just reached the UK. Those women's commuter shirts look nice. I might cheat on Rapha and get the short sleeved one.

Mr Cake got me a pair of the Levi's commuters and the shirt as an anniversary gift.

The shirt is nice and stretchy. It certainly doesn't keep you warm, I was wearing it today, and could have done with a tank top or some sort of base layer to keep things comfortable, but certainly fits well and seems to function well on the bike.

I like the jeans, but in comparison with the men's version, there are a couple of features lacking.

• tiny pockets, can't fit a smart phone in securely
  
• no loop for holding a lock
  
  

(it's mainly the pocket thing that bothers me, I got used to being able to put my whole phone in my pocket when wearing my men's commuters)

gah, I HATE shitty pockets. That's really a disappointment because for the price (for Levis) I thought it was a good deal. Lock loop doesn't bother me per se as I don't do that, but a bit of a let down that cycling specific jeans don't have the one thing that is pretty cycley.

What is the denim like? Is it stiff? I remember feeling the jeans when they had that box park pop up, but on the photos the denim looks weird.

non-functional pockets are a major grrrr for me.
I have successfully opened the pockets and added extensions? if that makes sense. BUT I shouldn't have to do that! so annoying. I mean, where are we supposed to keep our stuff while cycling (or, y'know, just existing), in a fucking handbag*?!

(* to be clear I don't have a problem with people who chose to use handbags... )

my mum would actually sew and cut off pockets so there's less fabric inside the trousers! Extending pockets on the other hand is my idea of good use of sewing skills..

I have the grey pair and they are a much softer denim than my men's denim commuters. They feel nice to wear, but I did slide around on my saddle a bit when I first rode in them. That seems to have gone away, not sure if I've gotten used to them, or roughed them up a bit. Not sure how robust they will be in the long run, they certainly don't feel as tough as the men's pair I have. A plus is that the waist is a good height, with a higher cut in the back, and as the fabric is quite stretchy, I haven't had any issues with them bunching or biting in at the front.

Glad I'm not the only one who is annoyed with tiny pockets. The pockets on these are larger than on some other jeans I've got (where you can barely squeeze an oyster card holder into the pocket), but it's not enough!

I've got some Pearl Izumi 'drop tail' bibs. I can't rate them highly enough. So comfortable and very easy to stick my hefty arse out of to pee quite easily.

That's a much better name than 'bum flap'.

I think she feels they're bulky.. And she actually never does use a pocket..

some pockets are so crap though. I'm thinking now of all the pockets I've ever put things in. Some are stupidly deep, so anything you put in them just rests awkwardly. Also, some are a ridiculous shape so you have to be careful to actually place things IN, because they'll fall out.
The ones I'm wearing now, are Levis and they are STUPIDLY small. It was alright at a push, and then apple made a longer phone and I got it and now I can't put it in my pocket.
OH WOW, just had an idea. @Doctor_Cake UNPICK THE POCKET AND EXTEND IT!!!! is this a good idea? Not sure now I've typed it. I'm going to try this for mine and report back.

I know also it was a while ago too, but I managed to get some super cheap Endura Thermolite Tight without pads for less than half price from my shop due to the low number of female cyclists in Walton.

Bought like 3, and gave them to two of my other friends, all three of them rated them extremely highly and end up wearing them like legging in winter time.

Reminds me that on Another Forum there been yet another (very civil) discussion on preferred terms, much as on here every so often...

(Because brain automatically goes urgh at "Ladies (howies) stuff" because it's surely for women not ladies whatever that means, but then this is the Ladies sub-forum so... *shrug *)

(For interest the general consensus seemed to be that woman was ok, female was only ok as an adjective not a noun, inconclusive on lady, inconclusive on girl - but not ok as commonly used in the workplace, other more "colloquial" terms ok from friends especially female friends. Interestingly none were clearly agreed upon, female as a noun being not ok probably the most agreed)

Can anyone give me some feedback on MFF jerseys / bibs?

I've just stuck down £12 towards the Penny in Yo' Pants Indiegogo campaign as my wife tells me that they look helpful and interesting. We're pondering grabbing another 3 as gifts for friends.

I like that they're handing over 5% of their sales (so a minimum of £250) to help the Afghan women's cycling team.

not sure I understand the question? On jeans the pocket bag is usually a seperate bit of cloth folded in half along the side, so I opened the bottom seam, added another bit of cloth, hey presto bigger pocket. here's an example helpfully colour coded. one good tip is when adding the new bit, don't do normal right-sides-facing seams, overlap them instead. if you have a machine where you can take the platform off to do armholes/cuffs etc then that's useful. I zig-zagged the seams down so I wouldn't catch them going into the pocket.

I think a couple of people on here have the Howies bib shorts? How did you find the fit?
I just got a pair in the larger (M-L) size, and while the length and bib half is fine, the leg width is seriously tiny. I had trouble just trying them on, perservered and couldn't really move my legs once they were on they were that tight. I don't have the slimmest thighs, but it seems extreme. I'm wondering if it's a manufacturing error.

Hey guys, I'm super new to this so please excuse my ignorance but I recently got my first ever track bike (yay) and I'm looking to buy a small backpack. Small is a serious requirement because I'm only 4'10 (midgetlife) and I think a big 'regular' sized back would look very strange on my petite frame. Would you happen to know some cycle friendly small ish backpacks? Any good brands? Thanks :)
