ive actually splashed out on a Thomson also. The KS wasn't long enough for me.
Not ridden off-road with the Thonson yet but pretty happy with my choice. The cable is a bit strange though eh? Kinda drags it down a bit. I've actually replaced the inner already as the clamp pretty much cut through the original cable.

Nice to know that at least one other person spent as much as I did on a seat post ;-)
In all honesty, I really rate it - have been riding some super technical trails around the Devil's Punchbowl and it gives me so much more confidence on the really steep stuff - I was riding with a rigid Thomson seatpost before and the dropper goes a lot lower than I could ever get the rigid one to go because of the kink in the Karate Monkey seat tube.
The cable routing is a bit odd but as long as it doesn't slide backwards towards the back wheel I think it is fine - I just run the clips pretty loose on the frame and it slides forward quite nicely. Probably gonna go back to SS after about 6 months of running geared, just not really having as much fun as I was SS- but will be keeping the dropper and the cable... it just works so well!
Can't really speak for the GD, but I splashed out on a 27.2 Thomson for my Karate Monkey... have to say I really, really love it... that was until I saw my mates KS Lev that he put on his Krampus... it looks and feels as well built as the Thomson but somehow works without any cable sag... a thing of beauty. Not sure if it meets your length requirements, but if I was to go back and spend a huge amount of cash on a dropper again, I'd probably go for that one...
