I tend to find if I exclude one food group I eat more of another. Try looking at portion size/control. If you eat reasonably size meals and combine this with exercise you may be pleasantly surprised.
Cheers man, I've been trying with portion control as well, problem is I'm in catered halls so it's a little ropey for the moment, hoping to lose more over the summer when I'm cooking for myself.
