I've got no problem following the 200's simplistic breadcrumb trail. It's good even in singletrack.
The 500 does not give me a direction arrow back towards the route when I'm off course, draws very slowly so I can't see what's coming up, zooms in and out at random at slower speeds and does not accept gpx files. I suppose it's tailored more towards the fitness market but I don't see why courses should be inferior to the 200, unless it cannot process all the extra information at once.
I have mixed opinions on it. The most annoying thing for me is I want to see data as well so I have it set to scroll but that means it spends most of the time it's on the map screen drawing rather than showing a route.
