It started and then spluttered and died, even when I tried to give it revs it juddered and stopped.
Sounds like a fuel supply issue more than anything? Clogged fuel filter would be the easy thing to check and replace? Hopefully nothing more serious. Gunk in injectors? What's the fuel injection system?

The last Raider editions were the best - either those or the first incarnations.
Still pretty reasonable, but finding a good one is a nightmare because of what the men of Essex did to them in the Romford area...

I'd take one of those too - if I could find one I'd have a Gordini.

It's going to the garage on Saturday to change the throttle cable so hopefully they'll be able to pinpoint it.
It did the same again this evening, took three goes to start and run. The first time, it juddered to a stall straight away. The second and third it started but then gave out when I gave it some revs.
After driving it for a while and then shutting the engine down, it starts fine.

Cold start issue then.
Are they K-Jet them ol' Mercs? I think they are, so it might be the warm up regulator.
Try to find a garage that knows K-jet or you could easily spend a grand chasing the fault. New parts from Bosch are mental money, KMI are your friends : http://www.kmipetrolinjection.co.uk/Bosch%20K-Jetronic.htm

There's a Porsche garage in Hainault that has a guy who works for them who knows K-Jet. If you want to take it somewhere.

I reckon Gemtech should know as they're Merc specialists and were highly recommended on the 190 forum.
If they give some kind of ridiculous quote or prognosis then there are loads of guides and tricks on the forum to try before I shell out, just need my Haynes to arrive.

There's a beautiful fully-kitted-out-extreme-outback-expedition Defender that a woman near here does the school run in...
She even has four of those massive fuel/water jerry cans on the roof for when the kids get thirsty... What a great mum...
Seriously tho', never seen so many extras on a 4wd...

Is an interesting starting point. Have you tried key on , wait till the fuel pump stops, key off then repeat about three or four times and then try and start?
-
• #23469
Presumably you'd have cider in the jerry cans?
