• My friend has a very old, very dead Rolex which is sentimentally valuable. I believe from the 1930s. Alsal said mechanism is not repairable, it has bad water damage, and they didn't seem very positive about finding an alternative mechanism to replace it, and advised that even putting a quartz movement in would be hard due to the pins on the rear of the face if i recall correctly.

    In short I think he didn't think it would be possible to do the job to a standard that he would be happy to see leave his workshop, which I respect. But someone must be able to do it - any suggestions? Anyone done anything similar?

    In the end, if the watch works and can be worn again (bonus if waterproof), the internals are not so important in this instance....
