Thanks, JusCos. If yours were 56, I'd be happy to swap. ;-) I'm just big fan of the Saronni-red.

I needa find one !

It can look very, very good.
Groupsets such as Athena 11 have a very classic look and, with the decals removed can really suit an older frame, especially when coupled with a sympathetic finishing kit:

Love the Highway one, I think it is the only compact shaped silver bar available for quills. Have tried sooo hard to find a new one in 42 but can't. Agreed with a black quill would be lovely.

I saw some skeleton brakes in classifieds that's not a problem But other thing is crankset/BB. I would like to get a ultra torque, but its quite rare thing even on evilbay to get UT in silver. As most of them are square tapered cranks without BB and with my knowledge, lack of it, it looks like few cans of worms (to get a correct spindle lenght)

You can simply get a classic looking square taper cranks from Spa Cycles instead.
Shimano UN55 and you're sorted.

Just get a black set, then strip and polish it.

Got a Master Piu with 10 speed Record, and a Pinarello with 11 speed alloy Athena - both work really well - a nice match of new and old.....

Ha ha! Well thought out? Mine breaks all the rules. It's a proper mish-mash ...
600 rear derailleur & front mech
Dura Ace 7700 levers/shifters
Dura Ace 9 speed cassette
Campag Veloce sealed bottom bracket
Campag Veloce dual pivot brakes
Campag Vento wheel on the front
600 hub with Campag Ypsilon rim on the rear
and ... Gatorskins! (oh noes!)
original Gipiemme cranks (engraved with "Bianchi") & chainrings
original Bianchi headset (just serviced it)It works very well.

What about current FSA, would that work?
-
• #45
Work in what way? Aesthetically or able to be stripped?
Either way, I don't know I'm afraid.

This illustrates one of the possible pitfalls of mixing the old with the new: the handlebar/shifter interface.
Modern handlebar shifters aren't made with "classic" bend handlebars in mind and the result is often uncomfortable, both aesthetically and ergonomically.

This was the only thing that spoilt it for me - I'd just go with contemporary bars myself.
-
• #48
Agreed - different bars would look a lot better.
-
• #49
I though it was comfortable, reckon it depend on your hand I guess.
Nitro Noodle is the perfect bar for those levers.
