I run modern stuff on a 70s Bianchi. It's lovely to ride!

I'm all for. Just finished building a Pinarello Treviso with DA 7400 and honestly it's not as light and not as much fun as the Aelle frame with later cheaper Shimano 600 parts (I think they're later) I have for knocking about on. Now I wish I'd stuck some modern stuff on there. Going fast is a laugh.

I think it can be a really good look, but it needs to be well thought out. Old italian frames like pinarellos, nags, bianchis etc with new Campag stuff looks good. Just don't put shimano with anything italian ;)

Here's mine.....Agreed it has to be Campag!

And this (white hoods and red brakes)

Plenty of old frames with modern groups on here, hhsrb thread has a few.

Sell crankset and brakeset for a silver one, or a classic looking black one and you're sorted.

I did a colnago with da7900 and modern..ish mavics. Very happy with it and ride it every day the sun shines. You should definitely build up the frame with that gruppo. What's the worst than could happen? You can always unbuild it again!

Now that ladies and gentlemen is how it's done! WimVDD's master is probably the best looking example I have ever seen of old and new.

• #23
another example
...Of how not to do it.
All modern groups look good on old frames

Yeah I agree, comfort over aesthetics. Have got a Zipp 17 degree ready to fit when I stop riding it and hang it on the bike rack!

Campag Veloce 10 speed groupset - nitto bars - campag chorus (i think) seat post, nitto handle bars, mavic rims and campy hub.
Guys, have you ever seen a retro bike with modern groupset which would be porn worthy? Or is it a big NONO
