haha, according to HMRC the border force team has spent today processing inbound deliveries that arrived on the 11th which mine and presumably the other forumgers wheels are in, and as of 5pm were unlikely to finish them today but should do early tomorrow, they then need to be transferred in the next movement from coventry to the local delivery centre (reading in my case) at which point i should be able to pay the charges and collect the wheels.... it seems unlikely this will all happen before my bike heads to Italy...
But yes i deffo blame the government, filthy pigz, its probably the monarchies' fault as well..

i deffo blame the government
It's not just ours, even the freedom loving (on a good day) 'Merkins have never had a government seriously committed to free trade.

Just got a letter from Parcelfarce with my customs charges. £25.91 Import VAT + £8.00 clearance fee. Just in case that info is at all useful to anybody.
-
• #205
Was that on full wheels or just rims?
-
• #206
Just rims. 2xFlo30
-
• #207
So my maths works out at this
4 x flo 30 rims =$320 £203
despatch/shipping Priority Mail International® $55.35 £34parcel force uk vat nazi tax £34
Total £271
-
• #208
2 x flo 30 rims =$160 £102
despatch/shipping Priority Mail International® $55.35 £34parcel force uk vat nazi tax £34
Total £170
I think it's more like this^
Yeah, we reached a place in history where £85 is considered an acceptable price for a single aluminium bicycle rim.

Whoop, my wheels have cleared customs, shame my bike has left already, but the wheels will come as my luggage - only need a wetsuit +trisuit and some shoes

Just measured the ERD on my flo30 rims (20h & 24h) -
580mm to 581mm at each measurement point (did 4 on each rim)

Decided on hubs too - deposit down for a pair of black low flange Macks.

@Sainsburys_Ed What were the total customs charges etc. on your wheel set? The same as upstart's?
I'm thinking of getting 2x Flo60s in the next order on Wednesday but want to make sure I've got all the likely costs sussed before I click 'confirm'.
Also I may need to find someone to buy them for me as I expect to be stuck on a motorway at ordering time...

20% VAT at import + Parcelforce handling (I think about £8 per parcel)
if you're ordering two rims then drop them a line once you've placed your order to remind them to package them together as one package, which might save you a quid or two
-
• #215
Humph... stupidly I'd forgotten VAT.
Front: ($424) £279
Rear: ($474) £312
20% VAT: £118
Shipping: £34 (from pacef8)
Parcel-force: £8All that equals £751... Not quite as cheap as I'd been hoping. Evans have Cosmic Carbones at £699 at the moment and I wouldn't have to wait. Maybe that would be a better option?

• #216
You might not be lucky with your order either juding by what they say on the amount they have made. Right now my vat invoice has gone missing so i have no idea which post office my rims are ?
Uk nazis!
When it turns up i will let you know.

• #217
Buying from outside the EU is always a bit of a gamble in that respect
-
• #218
All that equals £751
No it doesn't, because you pay import VAT on the shipping too. And 4.7% duty on bicycle parts.
£591 goods + 20% VAT + 4.7% Duty = £737
£34 shipping + 20% VAT = £41
Porcel Farce extortion £8
Total £786 -

Flo30 rims and wheels are still listed in their shop.
-
• #223
Correct - I meant to say no more 30's in their new line up. That being said I wonder if they'll keep producing the Flo30 rim/wheel.
-
• #224
I wonder if they'll keep producing the Flo30 rim/wheel
I expect they'll keep making them as long as enough people keep buying them
-
• #225
Mr Tester Sir, would you recommend flo30s as a good rim option for a basic track (rather than street) specific wheelset build?
Blame somebody. Specifically, this whole issue lays squarely at the door of successive governments who have consistently opposed free trade, to the detriment of everybody in the world.
