  • According to the guy it's a graphics card problem, he ran tests on both the LB and the GC and they came back OK... Funnily enough after a fortnight of dodginess the screen is now completely back to normal so it deffo looks like either a GC or LB problem...

  • Done some maths just now, it looks like I could top up around £300 and get the top specs 15 inch, it seems a no brainer to me. Hummmm... any thoughts?

  • Yeah why not spend an extra £300 that you didn't intend to spend, just because the first one was broken.

    Seems like a good deal!

    (For them)

  • +1

    Always max-out specs where possible.

  • It turns out it's mostly Adobe's fault rather than Apple, Apple's highest power aka dickheads customer relations have already said it's not their problem so I can be doomed, they are not interested in keeping me a happy or even a customer at all, I could go all the way and make it a trading stantard issue with both Apple and Adobe, but is it really worth my time going any further?

The offer was made from the store and has nothing to do with the rest of Apple, and I didn't even buy the machine from them at the first place. (The stores and the online stores are separate entities)

No, I don't want to pay any more money, but yes I am stuck and don't have much choice, other than keep swapping for the same model until 1 that works, or pay a little more for a machine that is far better. Yes, they have gained more than I proabably, but what are the alternatives?

  • If you don't mind 15" (too big for me) then do it. Maxed out models always hold their value better.

  • I don't do a lot of work on the go, and I am planning on getting a 11inch air (OK I have given up on the idea of getting a Macbook), and with a litle patience, the 11inh is actually OK for some light - meidum intensive editing.

  • I popped into a store this morning for something; the new macbooks are certainly eye catching. didn't have a go on the keyboard because I thought a quick tap tap tap on the way out would make me look like a weirdo.
I know they're rubbish, but I think I want one.
(lugged my 15" into work today. urgh.)

  • The keyboard is fine... Dropped my MBP off, no joy on a repair quote for the Thunderbolt... I'm gonna have to go rogue... Watch this space...

  • Speccing a new iMac for the office - can I get away with 8gb ram or should I push for 16? blah blah future proofing vs only gets used for one massive design job a year, otherwise it's spreadsheets or basic indesigning. Charity budget, innit, so not like there's money raining from the sky.

  • Is ram still user accessible on the 27"?

If so, stick with the 8 and they can upgrade when / if they need to.

  • Yeah my thinking. Need to check.

  • if it isn't i'd be surprised. 8gb will likely be fine anyway.

  • Huzzah! Assumed the new ones were all sealed and dealed like the laptops, but no, still fiddleable later. Problem solved.

  • Yes rams are still accessible on all current 27inch models. and that reminds me I have still got another too many iMacs that I need to upgrade the ram at work...

  • Re: iPhone 6 selfie camera crescent thing.... Apple Store replaced the whole screen gratis, no complaints from me, a tidy job.

  • Exceptionally pleased with my 2015 13 inch rMBP. Its exceptionally quick on CAD, photoshop and indesign and the retina makes a big difference, with much truer colour than anything I've previously used. Also multi-screens beautifully.

  • That's good news. Wonder if it'll happen again, or whether they've found out what caused it to slip.

  • At home my machine is plugged into a thunderbolt, at work I usually use their iMac. Yesterday/today I've been using my 15". Retina is wonderful, isn't it?! Even just web browsing is beautiful on it. I'd completely forgotten after not using it for so long.

  • Some nicely designed web sites with decent fonts suddenly become beautiful on a retina. those hipster sites put together by font obsessives suddenly make sense.

Also photography. having a proper love in with the retina.

  • Is anyone thinking of selling their Air? Ideally 2014 / 2013 models. If I am going with the bigboy 15 inch, then I'd need a lighter in my bag and forget about it machine.

  • Any issues with buying an iPhone in HK in terms of warranty over here? I'm on a £15 contractless deal and buying a handset works out cheaper than entering into a new contract.

  • I am pretty sure warranty for iPhones are regional, so if it goes tits up, you wouldn't be covered.

Besides, if you bought it from Apple UK directly, you are covered by the UK comsumer rights law / Sale of goods act, wich essentially gives you 6 years protection, but you would have to buy from Apple UK directly as they have the be the original seller. I have had iPhones totally out of warranty that were replaced because of the laws.

  • I've never managed to get an iPhone replaced by that law - is that because I buy it from O2?

  • But I could get it replaced from Apple Hong Kong?
