Dan's point is very valid, there's definitely a problem if you split things up too much. A forum as a public place benefits from lots of different people coming into contact with one another, even if they occasionally crash into each other by accident or fight. If there are too many forums for people to look at, and many navigate forums by looking at the actual forums as opposed to accumulator pages like 'Today' (currently not a very powerful set of functions), then they miss things.
